It appears that delusions can be taught by a dominant person to a passive individual by constant repetition of a false belief. A similar technique is used in politics and by religious cults. In these cases, there is constant repetition of propaganda (false beliefs) until passive individuals accept it as "truth" and then firmly hold these false beliefs against all evidence to the contrary.

Seems to be a common problem on both the left and the right in American politics (perhaps all politics?).

IMHO, too many passive folks that vote on both sides. Can't blame them ... watching / reading any 'news' outlet is painful and rife with bias and opinion.
