5/15/20 Report

Post by Guy in Shorts »

Snagged some takeout seafood from Caseys Caboose heading up to the looming white snowpack for dinner. Sun filled afternoon where temps climbed into the 70's had given way to late day looming thunderstorm clouds. Under any normal year this would be the time to pack up the truck after logging in one of the most amazing soft mogul bumping days of the season. The reason I ski hard all year is to have the legs and skills for days like this. Silky smooth Superstar sat there unloved instead slowly melting away. Drove slowly down the access road as the summer r*in started to fall.

That’s a sh*t ton of snow for about a week out from Memorial Day.
Never argue with idiots. They will bring you down to their level, then overwhelm you with their experience.

Wow, I skied the next day, and for my note I wrote 8 to 5:00 Superstar only in nice sunny weather. Wonder why I didn't travel anywhere else on the mountain looking at that picture. That was a great May of skiing, all my other days from that month have more interesting/fun comments.

though the coverage looks great I'm sure it was superstar lift only, though you could have walked to the canyon...

I'm guessing that we have more snow now due to the lack of daily skiing and grooming which probably takes a toll on the snowpack.

On the other hand, was the glacier fully stockpiled before the shutdown or would that have done more?

I wasn't reading Kzone back then, so I just went thru a bunch of May posts...you're exactly right, Superstar lift only and all the daily reports rave about how great each weekend was weatherwise/ski conditions at least one of the days. I'm guessing it was the first time I hadn't hiked or skied other terrain, that's why my note was so simple.

I've been reading Kzone since it's inception but I only started hanging out w these guys in 2014...and yes we had a couple years of epic conditions...the snow often lasts til late may but many times the nice sunny days don't coincide w the days the lift spins and you get a lot of frozen crud, fog and low visibility....

I remember remarking to mr moose ( who I had just met in 2014) that these were among the greatest spring conditions we'll ever see...years later we realized it was true...

good times sorely missed. though this spring would have been groom-heavy with the bitter cold. (i brought plants inside 5 of 8 days til thursday nite. much of that snow would have been shaved and melted.

yup GIS, as it remained light WAY into the evening yesterday i thought about how weird it was to be home. weekend days this time of year are always spent on the access,
likewise my legs were feeling fantastic 2mos back, with bumps on SS at forefront on my thinking.

next spring should be all the sweeter for this unfortunate outage. as will be opening day.
