With the new lifts and lodge on the Basin side, it seems the lines there are much worse than at Bear. Note that just 5 years ago, the Skye Peak Express was known to have some of the longest lines. This also may have to do with the fact that less terrain is open at Bear when compared to the basin.

I think there’s two more reasons why the sky peak quad is less crowded now, one reason is that with the South Ridge quad you don’t need the Sky Peak quad to leave Bear, and I think another reason is that after they added the Snowdon 6 bubble and reconfigured the trail layout, alot of people seem to like to stay over at Snowden now.

People are going to gravitate to where the terrain is. With no park over there (yet) there is a large demographic missing. Also there is only essentially one route open down off the top of the quad. Once more opens up the lines will increase, but never to the level of the old fixed grip.

People like shiny new things and the new lifts and lodges are all at k1 and Snowdon. When they put shiny new things in other parts of the mountain those areas will be where everybody goes.

They need some shiny new toys at Ramshead and Snowshed to keep people there.

surprising lack of crowd at bear considering the lot has been full except for the last row or two each of the past 2 days. agree, a number factors including lack of trails and no park. not a complaint but was hoping they would get at least upper burst painted before this latest round of weather moved in. we usually park there (particularly on crowded days) and when fully open, can spend an hour or more there before heading to other areas. now it's maybe 3 runs and c'ya. also the basin, particularly w the new lodge and 3 major lifts emanating from there is the center of the resort.

regarding the fast lane, fine if folks feel the need to pay a premium for that "privilege". doesn't effect me whatsoever. would never be in the areas at a time where it might prove useful.

both are crowded enough. snowshed is fine for now but ramshead is crying out for a bubble 6 and a lodge. think a new chair is imminent while the lodge is probably tied into the village if it ever happens. while snowshed is the "beginner" area, rams really has the best novice and low intermediate skiing at k and is sorely underutilized. having given one trail to the racers and one to the rats, the fact that upper header often lays fallow is an oversight.

Conspicuous consumption is actually part of the appeal.

Too much to type, more of a "I'll tell this story when I see you in the lift line or parking/camp set-up", but I'd argue for many that add the Fast Pass, the conspicuous consumption is the main reason to get it. Didn't matter the snow conditions, or how many runs they got in, just that they could cut others by paying a measly amount.

Always annoys me to see the ski school teachers bringing their novice students down to Snowden via Caper, a trail that is already so crowded on a busy day and made worse by the clowns who think it's cool to lay side hits on a crowded trail. FFS keep these people at Ramshead - nice long, wide runs that let you work on whatever drills or demonstrations you need! And usually has the best snow on the mountain. Why are you taking these people to tight, crowded places to learn to ski??

myself as well. more surprised we haven't poached it. somehow fell through the cracks usually skis well on nat. not there today, assuming the snowmakers are heading up to shut something down?

to easyrider's point, caper is one of the scarier trails on the mtn for the reasons you mention, particularly the clowns laying hits on the side of the of the trail. great northern below the NR has the same issue.
