I almost hit a coyote on Route 4

Post by spanky »

At around midnight last Friday night on Route 4 in Mendon (east of the church and west of the Irene washout), what I believe to be a coyote ran right in front of me. Damn thing disappeared in front of my hood and I for sure thought I was going to tag it. Thankfully, no thump!

I can only assume it was a coyote, too big to be a dog or a fox. Too small to be a deer. I only caught a glimpse of it as it ran from the driver's side. I didn't see it to the right.

So glad I missed and and pretty cool to know they're out there!

Coyotes don't get much over 50-60 lbs, many dogs are bigger than them.

Had two run right by me and my kid in the front yard. And another time one was sitting next to my detached garage when I was leaving for work.

Holy carp. I gather I should’ve hit the accelerator instead of the brake. Same with deer! Of course, I would if I knew I wouldn’t damage my car. /s

Coyotes, bears, deer, bobcats, I even had an owl fly and hit my car the other day! They are all around Northern New England.

Was there a nearby roadrunner taunting it?
