The New K1 Schlepp

Post by Southside_Bobby »

Going around the uphill perimeter wasn't too bad on a colder day. But it will definitely feel like more of a slog this spring.

K indicated that they were going to create better walking access on the road between Superstar and the other side. Not sure what they have in mind, but some improvement would be welcome.

It would also be nice if they moved at least a couple of the dozen or so porta pots they put below Superstar, over to Bay 2, where they had a few last year.

It will only be for a couple more weeks, the snow isn't going to last much longer on that side.

during this deconstruction phase, yeah it's going to be a pain. i can no longer carry enough speed. but next season it should be much improved since i don't believe the new lodge will extend out as far as the old one so they should be able to do some grading.

moving some portosans over to the one of the bays is a good idea.

wondering what's gonna happen to the spring scene on the access road. heard that once they bring in the heavy equipment, the access road is gonna be closed at vale road. will suck not being able to park at the base of the lift.

I think they posted earlier that on some weekdays, the access road would be closed, but they would keep it open on weekends. They're only open midweek until May 1, so after that it's a non-issue.

It still remains to be seen whether any new grading and better angle will make it smoother on an average day. Much might depend on where they place all of the ski racks.

With the design of the lodge pouring everybody out onto the snow at that corner, we'll see how congested it gets on a busy day.

jury's still out. perhaps it will be better once you can ski closer to the lodge. but overall, there really isn't much they could do.

Snowdon to Supe schlep got better today: the cut through under the triple past KSC has snow on it. The schlep back continues to get better as they push snow in toward the new deck. No matter what you do it’s going to be a long haul. It’s about to 200 yards straight line from the bottom of superstar to a bit past the first tower on the K1.

Simple fix, get the SRQ up and running as soon as possible and run it 7 days a week. The mountain skis infinitely better when that lift is running.

I’d settle for it being in the mix of chairs they run sometimes midweek. Needles Quad, Canyon, AND South Ridge. Baby steps.
