monday 4/21 report
first day of what's usually superstar season - guess this year it's canyon season. beautiful blue skies, temps in the 50's. fun meter was a spinal tap crank it up to 11. more peeps than expected. 9-2 shift. quit when the clouds swallowed up the sun.
other than the HW, skied all open terrain. at the bell, dipper was groomed creaminess. many laps. an early rotd. moved over to LEF which softened nicely. huge, mature, skied in, power hour type bumps. rotd. the less skied upper cascade was corned up goodness. lower closed. upper downdraft quite good. lower downdraft "ok" but the less preferred route. bumps soft enough but the troughs quickly skied off.
the GN/snowdon route hanging in there. plenty of snow on trap. also made a couple nature walks over to upper chute/GB, which skied very well and still has a lot of snow.
it's only day one speculation, but it appears that dipper will be the main groomed route. maybe they leave LEF bumped as it's sunny aspect will soften early. and the less grooming, the longer it lasts. perhaps they groom downdraft occasionally. of course the NR routes will be groomed daily.
also saw them building a pathway to the triple loading area. wondering if they're thinking about running that instead of the K1.

10-3:30 shift with Liv4ski and others zoners. Many fast DD laps mixed in with many LEF bump runs. Both excellent.
Upper cascade to downdraft was soft enough to do around 11:30.
Found Hollywood for a few runs. As with GIS, Moose and Southside. One thing about superstar type skiing you see everyone as were all in the same area.
Bay one lunch. Back out with some 802. At 2:00 place emptied out. Got cloudy and the kids on vacation looked tired.
Saw Ozzy and kids as the r*in started. Just sprinkles really. Bay one empty at 4, so called it a good day.

Prepping the triple for a backup lift in case the K 1 can't run possibly? Place shuts down without the K 1 running.skiadikt wrote: ↑Apr 21st, '25, 14:40 first day of what's usually superstar season - guess this year it's canyon season. beautiful blue skies, temps in the 50's. fun meter was a spinal tap crank it up to 11. more peeps than expected. 9-2 shift. quit when the clouds swallowed up the sun.

Re: monday 4/21 report
Definitely. Mountains will routinely have groomers smooth or even create access for lifts they don't intend to run. Right now, they would certainly want to be able to fire up the S3 quickly if the Gondi broke down.
Re: monday 4/21 report
Killington already said they were shutting down K 1 gondola on May 11 for repairs and running the triple the rest of the season
