Worst Ski Resorts

Post by Ballzout »

Somewhat related to the "what resorts have you skied at". How about letting us know about any resorts you have visited that you thought completely sucked ass, and will never visit again. Perhaps the mountain was horrible. Perhaps the people were horrible. Or maybe the location was horrible. This may help others on this board to not make the same mistake. Therefore, explainations would be helpful.

From my list of 19 resorts I have been to, I will never return to 2 of them.

#1 Quebec, Canada:
Ski Bromont - Only 2 lifts service all of the upper mountain terrain and they run [/b]parallel so everyone has to funnel to the exact same area to catch a lift. The two lines were insane! Literally 45-50 minutes in either line to go back up the hill.

#2 Virginia:
Massanutten - A huge "mass of nothing". Suck-ass mountain. Suck-ass terrain. Suck-ass lodge. Suck-ass bouncers in the bar. I along with 2 buddies went only because some other friends of ours who have a band were hired as the weekend-night live entertainment for the bar/club thing they have going on in the lodge. My buddies and I got kicked out that night because one of my friends (not in the band) closed his eyes for about 20 seconds. The 3 of us nearly got our asses whooped by about 9 bounce dudes for protesting. Soon after they even kicked out
the band for mouthing off at some drunk who knocked over some of their equipment.

Skiied here out of necessity through college. Location and the season pass for $100. No terrain, total of about 500ft vertical. About 7 trails when you don't count by the Killington method (upper/lower). Not even a good mountain to introduce people to skiing/snowboarding.

Short season. Mid-December through Late February. Once skiied on Prez Weekend on the softest snow I've ever seen. Thin cover and ice is usually the norm.

Lodge sucks. Bar sucks. Terrain park sucks. Overall a bad experience. Location was the only plus.

Campgaw (if you can call it a resort)

Anyone that grew up, or now lives in Northern NJ probably will agree.

From Spring Mountain, PA Website:

"Top Elevation: 528' (one of the highest points in Montgomery County)"

How awesome is that?

Campgaw did serve a purpose though. I remember as a kid growing up in Bergen County, when we first started skiing, mom & dad would pick us up from school for some inexpensive night skiing. As I got older and progressed, I had no desire to go there.

When I go up to Bergen & Rockland Counties to visit family this winter, I will take my 3 yr old there or Sterling Forrest to practice.

Made my first tracks at BB. Fell off the lift getting off, crossed my tips, face plant on the ice, busted my lip open. Think I was like 13 years old.

Never took a lesson before getting on the chair. My dad was always the type to teach you himself. Once they got me up and settled down, I asked him how to turn. He told me: "It just has to feel right." Didn't fall again that day, ended up skiing down the blacks that day too.

So BB has a sentimental place in my heart. But I would never recommend a hill where a newbie can schuss down a diamond on his first day.

Yes, it did have its purpose. Growing up in Ridgewood we were very close and my parents also brought us there for night skiing after school.
I remember as a kid I was scared to death of the mid station on the chairlift. It was straight down.
