Another collision on Saturday, caused by poor planning
The line for the Poma had started building straight out from the back of it i.e. up toward High Line upper entrance (the one thats roped off now).
I got in it when it was about halfway across Bunny Buster. It started building behind me and was close to covering 3/4 or Bunny.
A boarder was heading (at a fast rate) for a small hole that had opened up 3 or 4 people in front of me. Unfortunately a girl who was in line closed up the hole without even realizing he was coming.
SMASH! Knocked her down. Got up quicky and sped away, with the whole line yelling for him to stop.
She turned out to be OK. I then yelled to the line that we should move it up parallel to the pome (straight up Bunny) which we all did.
The line formation was poorly planned. Another instance where either a ski patroller or Ambassador might have helped.
I don't understand the ambassador thing - they've got like 6 of them in the drop off lot at KBL, and only 2 or 3 on the mountain (or so it seems). Wouldn't it make more sense to put the bulk of them on the mountain on a day like Saturday?

I don't know - they seem to like to hang around the lodge and drink coffee, yak it up and smile alot.
I saw at least 4 or 5 of them in the little Guest Services office last time up. They are as out of touch with the mountain as the people selling lift tickets.
You did a cool thing by moving the lift line
and turning a negative into a positive :) by preventing others from getting slammed.

I spend a little time on the mountain, spend a little time on the hill.
I looked into the ambassador thing this year because it seemed like it would be a lot of fun. The ambassador job seemed to be more about 'meeting and greeting' at the base areas than helping out on the mountain in a situation like this. You are right this is where they should be helping out....
Oh and they want you on the mountain for 20 days from 9-5. For this you get a free pass. I passed....

I can't do that Poma to save my life.........last year saw that there was NO line....so decided to try it so I could go up to the top without having to go back down.... Fell off 3x, saw a line had formed & gave up......
That was really nice of you to change the line formation...

Gotta watch those lines.
I was going down a single black that eventually turns into an intermediate while it was snowing. To make matters worse a fog settled in at the top of the run. While coming down what should have been a fairly clear run (no trail intersections), there was an instructor with a class lined straight across the trail like a mother duck with a bunch of ducklings.
Fortunately I was able to shed a ton of speed and get around the group with a fairly reasonable amount of room to spare. I was definitely much more cautious after that.

You need to think of it in a different aspect. It is your friend. Yes, cold now, but by the end it will be very warm wrapped between your legs. Snuggle it and carress it as you leave the start position. then hang on as it pull you up and forward. Very rewarding.jenscats5 wrote:I can't do that Poma to save my life.........last year saw that there was NO line....so decided to try it so I could go up to the top without having to go back down.... Ah, just grab it, put it between you lets and hang on. If you can't do that, how the hell did you get up there to begin with?

Heh heh, my first attempt was at Crestted Butte as well. I had the line cracking up (especially my friends) because I didn't realize how strongly that thing jerked you up the mountain, and I wasn't holding on tight enough. As it turned out on my 2nd try, the first 3 pulls are strong enough that you come off the ground!BLING! wrote:you should try it on a snow board. my first attempt was out at crested bute.

Zoners..... uncomped Ski Ambassadors, we bring value to the mountain. Should start a poll on how many have gone out of their way to help someone on the hill.
Cogito, ergo sum
