New video by VTrans of Route 107...

Post by RENO »

Video Just posted today of amazing progress on Route 107 by Vtrans. They are estimating completion by year's end...

Fresh video from Route 107 in Bethel. We now have a 2-lane sub-base in place. This was shot while driving east towards Tozier's.

That's really good news. I'm flying out of Trudeau International in Montreal in a month. I always take the 107 to Bethel route. I was just looking at alternate routes this morning. I'd prefer to use the I-89 border crossing since the I-87 border crossing is so much busier. They might actually get 107 open in the next month.

This is how they got all the rocks to 107. Incredible work!

We are running a Rock Train from Burlington to Bethel so we have enough rock on site to rebuild Route 107 before winter. About 3,000 tons arrive daily. Here is a video clip of the rock "arriving."

Speaking for those of us property owners on the Stockbridge 'peninsula', we are seeing signs of progress every day now.
Some of the incidents of unsuspecting drivers going into the 'zone' have been insanely comical.
...an Aussie and his wife were headed to a wedding in Woodstock in October. She had on a gown and heels and was ankle deep in mud.
Last weekend a high school kid from NY (with a snowboard on the roof) drove his dad's Kia right thru a cinder block barricade. Totalled !
How many 'Road Closed' signs does a driver need to see before they decide to turn around?
Patience has worn quite thin and car repair bills are quite high.
The only guy in Bethel that did well on Irene was Dean's automotive.

Pike is keeping their paving plant open to accomodate the need to get a light coat of pavement down.
We expect both the Lamberts stretch and the Toziers strectch will be passable before significant measurable snowfall.
As to refrigerator flats, looks like the traffic lights will be in operation for a while longer.

You lucky dogs will most-def beat us to fresh tracks this year. What used to take 20 minutes to KBL now takes 40.
So...no fat-tracking the primo lines !

If not, you can take River Road in Gaysville to Route 12 then south to 89. River Road runs along the opposite side of the White River parallel to 107 and remains the current local commuter route from the Stockbridge area to Bethel / I-89.

in a month, River Rd (aka 'the boulevard') will morph back to it's normal purpose. (Hay + logging trucks, occasional Game Warden)
From Gaysville, the road actually intersects 107 in Bethel at the RR trestle. Use Bullwinkle vigilance. 2 miles to 89. No Rt 12 required.

Hmmm.... Once Route 107 has a base coat down, what will the drive time be like between Killington and I-89 compared to pre-Irene? It used to take me 35 to 40 minutes at the speed limit or speed limit + 5.

Once Toziers to Lamberts is paved, and that's hapnin next week or so, the traffic lights on 107 in refrigerator flats are the hurdle.
They're 'near grade' on that stretch, but routinely, it adds 10-15 to the trip. These are all T&M contracts ( you know what I'm sayin...)
Many of us have been detouring up Blackmere up to Ted Green's and down 100. That's a good path.

Overall, right now, it'd take >1 hour coming in off I-89 exit 3. (if you don't blow a tire/wheel)

You're right, that last segment east from the bridge in Bethel to I-89 is actually 107, not 12.

That's cool. I never saw real railroad cars that dumped like that. I have seen them on model train layouts, but never real life!

My mouth isn't big enough to blow a tire. Can I just suck on the valve stem?

I'm starting to think I'll just do the Fort Ticonderoga Route to I-87 to get to Montreal.

When our crew was up in the area filming with Shortski, we were escorted by VT Trans up to 107 and shot in the area. I was blown away by what I saw there. here's a few pics/video from September 23rd. They've come a long way since then:

Not sure if this is 100, or 107 (click for video clip):
