Peak Lodge Trees

Post by Guy in Shorts »

With over 14 feet of natural snowfall coupled with some amazing winds and weeks of r*in free cold these prized trees have gathered up enough drifted snow to allow lines to be skied that haven't been open in years. For what's its worth here is my 2 cents. Not for the faint of heart but if you have the will and tools it is possible. Killington's shorter version of the Jay Peak Chutes. Biggest hazard is the small saplings have several years of growth in middle of the ski chutes. Will gladly buy a beer to anyone who trims off a couple hated ones. The drifted snow pack is stable in most places but it is possible to fall into pretty deep snow caves under the trees in some places. Dave's Drop was skied Wednesday so the local Mendon skier gets his name attached to the double tree top pillow drop. Sorry, being first gives naming rights. Rocks, cliffs, trees mixed with deep powder is my idea of gnarly Killington fun and this ridge does not disappoint. That question that Mom used to ask “Would you jump off a cliff if your friend did” applies here.

Spotter was required in some spots to warn the clueless Great Northern skiers of the falling merging traffic. It is boarder friendly as a couple of the local ladies were brave enough to give it a go. Ski and Ride Safe.

EPIC!!

Nobody sane gonna repeat that.

All this snow makes insane lines tempting. Dropped the short steep shot towards Falls Brook (Over the pipe) at the top of Bear Cub. Waist deep powder. You get 5 0r 6 turns and it takes 20 hard minutes to struggle back to the trail. Once a year.

Also skiers right at the top off Ovation is really filled in well... skiing over the stunted pines has never been better.

saw your tracks there on sunday. Guess nobody else has gotten the balls to do it. No need for "fight club" rules on this one i guess.

Doesn't look like it would have ended well, if the catch fence didn't stop him.

I think that is the wrong location. I thought gis is talking about north side of lodge. View from the office.
