Bill Weld / Joe Walsh
Anybody like them or think they have any chance?
Re: Bill Weld / Joe Walsh
Would like to see Weld do well but I don't really see how he has a realistic shot. It would be interesting if he won a state or two in the primaries, but that's not going to carry the day.
It seems possible that a Republican could run a third-party campaign post-primary with the express goal of splitting the vote so Trump has less chance of winning, but I'm not sure if that's in the cards.

Would be political suicide should someone decide to do this. Unless the economy tanks, I don't see it.Kpdemello wrote:It seems possible that a Republican could run a third-party campaign post-primary with the express goal of splitting the vote so Trump has less chance of winning, but I'm not sure if that's in the cards.

I didn't know Joe Walsh was running. I guess he has a lot of time on his hands since the Eagles aren't touring and the James Gang featuring Joe Walsh hasn't played in decades.daytripper wrote:Anybody like them or think they have any chance?
As far as Bill Weld, he is drunk all the time; or hung over.

Re: Bill Weld / Joe Walsh
For a guy like Weld, he's not even in office right now. His last involvement in politics seems to have been the VP nomination for the libertarian ticket in 2016. I'm not sure he's got much to lose. But then Weld on a third party ticket might not be enough to move the needle anyway.XtremeJibber2001 wrote:Would be political suicide should someone decide to do this. Has anyone ever ran against a sitting president in the primary and won?

Closest was probably Ford, who faced a challenge from Reagan in '76. Ford won the primary but lost the general to Carter.
Re: Bill Weld / Joe Walsh
Weld was an excellent governor and imo would be a great president. Fiscally conservative, socially moderate. Graduated summa cum laude from Harvard, studied economics at Oxford them cum laude from Harvard law.
More qualified and sensible than our current president.
I’ll be voting for him in the primary and would vote for him before any of the candidates currently on the dem side.

Weld's best chance would have been 2016 .. had they flipped the ticket.
Despite Johnson's Aleppo gaffe, he and Weld drew 5M votes.
Surely there were 76k voters among those
3rd party chances are pretty slim .. leading to Electoral college flukes.

Agree about Weld being much more qualified than Johnson.

Johnson was a bit of a joke. If it were Weld on top I'd have probably voted that way.

They are live debating right now on Business Insider:

It is amazing how much more well spoken they are than Trump.
I'll be supporting Bill Weld in the primary. I invite all of my republican and "center / moderate" friends to watch this and see that these two are a viable alternative and worthy of a look.
