Working on snowmobiles outside in a T-Shirt on 11/1. Pretty weird.

I live in the flatlands of NH and have had more frost/freezes than I can count with a low of 27 being the coldest so far. I do check the Killington temperature on the website and some days 20 degrees warmer than my temp.

While I agree it's weird, last November I was outside in shorts & Tshirt riding all the way up to the 18th (other than the couple of rainy days), seems like we better start getting used to the warmth (and the delay of our anticipation of skiing).

I don't know about that. Yes, 20,21 and now 22 have been slow to get cold, but all 3 have been during the rare triple year La Nina cycle. For this myopic snapshot, I'm going to tie it to that macro pattern and reserve future judgement on delayed season starts. Seem to recall we did pretty well early on in 18 and 19 before La Nina cranked up.

I hope you are right but if I'm wearing shorts on future Nov days I'm not going to be surprised anymore.

Well, for this one year anyway, we're near record warm right now while the west is darn cold and snowy. Western areas are opening by the handfuls, many either their earliest ever or earliest in well over a decade. This includes Winter Park (opened 10/31, earliest ever), Brian Head and Mammoth. Speaking of California, even SoCal will get in on the ski and ride action this coming Thursday as Mountain High will open. They already have over a foot of machine made base snow down and are expecting upwards of 2 feet of natural this weekend. Let's see what happens next year assuming La Nina dies down and we don't get an unprecidented 4th year in a row of the cycle.

Drove back up from Atlantic City today. Temps were in the 70s all the way, with much of the drive above 75. We just kept saying how weird it was to feel like summer on November 5th.

noticed you were down there. i was a bit south of you in somers pt. spectacular weather. drove home today. hit 80 during part of my drive. rutland was at 70 when i passed through a short while ago.

gonna guess that they'll fire the guns tuesday overnite at least on supe. a solid week of favorable weather begins saturday overnite or sunday. day temps may be a bit marginal but overnights all good. gonna be down to the wire.

Think they'll bother with tuesday night? maybe, just to be certain everything is working properly. down to the wire alright!

So looking out at the 10 day, starting on the 13th it is showing lows in the high 20’s and highs in the low 40’s…. Not at elevation I assume.

Will that be good enough for K to pull this off? I guess it depends on how much lower the temps are at elevation….

Yes I think they go tonight unless the cold doesn’t come as modeled. Cold pulls out on Tuesday but maybe they can keep going for a bit. But at this point I think that any 8-10 hour window they will go. I will note that NWS mountain forecast not as cold as what appears on the models so it will be close.

There's a little too much gloom and doom in this thread. While the near term window starting late tonight looks sketchy (but perhaps we'll get lucky), the snow making window starting early Sunday morning looks solid. Killington and FIS keep marching forward as if its a go, and the further along they get the harder it is to pull the plug. So unless the Sunday window somehow massively blows up, it's a lock and it's a go. It may come down to the wire, but I would be shocked if FIS didn't give Killington as much slack as they needed. Everyone needs this to succeed.

Just did a quick check, it’s 2:50am and snowmaking is on progress at the top of Superstar and North Ridge. Forecast is pointing for just above freezing tomorrow followed by a colder night tomorrow then followed with a couple days of above freezing temps before cold moves in on Sunday.

Any prediction on a timeline for a possible opening day?
