wednesday 12/28 report

Post by skiadikt »

a little more brightness would have been nice but another fine day on the hill. seemed a little more crowded. will call it a friday crowd.

2nd chair at bear yielded our rotd on lower wildfire. pretty much made trax on the velvety made man. unfortunately, didn't last long as the hard base was quickly exposed. guns shut down later. claw/burst very nicely groomed. stash>shorty was mostly firm nat snow. cruise was cruise. panic nice under the guns if you could see. vertigo still quite good but the crossover entrance now more challenging. old supe might have the best bumps on the mtn. the other runs in the pod, totally skied off. SR continues to deliver with upper jug, pipedream and breakaway skiing very well. indeed cap'n, flush surprisingly good. other than the trees, the last "stash" remaining on the mtn is upper dipper. nice of kms to fence it off for us. and oh yeah we did snoloco's favorite run down to rt. 4. some ruff spots but overall OK.

I was told Upper Chute and Swirl are under the guns, any confirmation? Upper Header as of yet still fallow though...?

Busiest day of the season so far, but only crowded in places. Coming off of Needles onto GE to Cruise had crush hour traffic, but other spots were empty; e.g., anything that wasn’t groomed.
Conclusion, Highline, Lower Flush continue to excel. Flume starting to show the wear. SS, didn’t ski, but unsurprisingly looked slick. Upper Wildfire “firm”, Lower great under the guns early, it had had two grooms prior so very easy. Needles T2B had snow making and skied well. Lots full again, but lifts not overwhelmed. Tons of people in the new K1, and the bumps combined to slowed the traffic.

Christmas week requires patience by the regulars. So many peeps with their once a year ski vaca. It’s an important week financially for the mountain. Laugh, take a deep breath, and enjoy the chaos and carnage. It’ll be over soon.

guns on upper header were removed last week.

rt 4 open, wildfire done and looks like panic/needles and swirl are gonna get in under the wire. kudos to the mtn for their snowmaking effort and for making the most of the recent weather events. looks like snowmaking should wind down tomorrow and unfortunately could be a week before they fire up in earnest again. hopefully the damage isn't too bad from this next event and hopefully it's the last one for a while.

Thx.

Since Swirl doesn't have fixed gear hopefully that gear just went next door from Header, maybe it'll go back. Sure haha.

Or you could do what I do and stay the hell away during Xmas week. They can have it, see you next year.

Dammit, I was looking forward to skiing it on Saturday. Is the trail completely washed out?

Crack o 11. Off to Rt. 4 via great eastern.

No bar. Cans in the understaffed chicken cafe.

Needles bumps were huge. Bitter nightmare.

Short day. At Brenda’s house with GSmcased.

Pico tomorrow and open mike at liquid art?

I wouldn't worry about that any trail damage will be repaired well before then.
