They need to beat Sommet Saint Sauveur which is opening on Tuesday the 30th. I think that's why it's being considered.

^^ the party ... the after-party.
if the latter doesn't happen, it's still 'the party'

interesting :" tons of snow to work with "
i like stated the willingness to try.

knowing it may get used up.

I was sent a couple pictures of the snow depth GPS gauge on a cat working yesterday and there is considerable (as in multiple feet) still in many spots. Problem is the trouble areas are going to torch just so quick come Sunday/Monday and it's going to be a race as to if these deeper areas are enough to repair the rest. If they reopen for June it's going to be rough like last year. If they do it, I would just make a two cat track bridge (if at all) vs blading the entire hill in an attempt to repair.

June 1st is a Thursday this year. I won't be able to make it if they open, but I just want Killington to beat Sauveur. Last year they waited for the first Saturday in June. I guess time will tell.

Hope I'm wrong but I'm now at 10% chance of that down from 25% based on forecast from here until Thursday.

agree they should go june 1 rather than wait for the saturday because with the heat, each day there'll be exponential snow melt. then again, they know exactly what they have regarding snow depths.

feeling much more optimistic about june 1 at least. there's still a lot of snow out there. believe we were walking and skiing rocks on the HW by sunday afternoon last year. HW looking very strong and should remain skiable through the rest of the weekend. we'll see how the rest of weekend plays out.

It should be skiable top to bottom all weekend. From Monday to Thursday is not that heavy of a lift. Walking will probably be necessary, but has it ever not been when they've been open in June?

probably not news at all, "word" on the hill today was that they'll decide mid-week whether to open for june 1 or hold out for the weekend.

as i said in my report, there's a potential break forming just above tower 5. also skier's right on the HW has rocks showing. there's still plenty of snow between 6 & 7 they can move and the headwall is still good.

"When is Killington's Closing Day?

Your typical ski resort decides on a closing day before they even open for the season. But here at The Beast, we do things differently. We know you want to ski and ride and if we can keep it rolling, we will. So rather than announcing this Monday, May 29th(when we’re confident we’llstill have plenty of snow to lap Superstar) as our definitive closing day, we’regoing to wait and see.

Unfortunately, the forecast for next week looks HOT – which is extremely unfavorable for maintaining snowpack, and we just don’t know what will happen. But, if on Wednesday, May 31st we survey the glacier and find plenty of snow to provide great skiing and riding, we hope to say, YES! To Thurs. June 1st OR Sat. June 3 skiing is a go.

If we’re able to ski and ride in June a $25 day ticket will be available and all proceeds will be donated to the Rutland County Pride in honor of Pride Month. New Beast 365 passholders as well as all 2022/23 Killington passholders and 2022/23 IKON passholders are invited to ski or ride at no charge. Thanks for a great season!"
2014 - "A South Ridge trail is Pipe Dream. A South Ridge lift shouldn't be."
2019 - "A South Ridge trail is Pipe Dream. A South Ridge lift (operating midweek) shouldn't be."
2023 - Killington announces that the South Ridge lift will run five days a week.
2024 - Killington lied.
