Re: Fan Guns

Catamount’s second owners were involved with SMI back in the late 60s, and ultimately founded the 320, I believe. The 320 was totally airless and used a 3 phase powered fan Spinning at 3600 rpm to nucleate water. They work but need to be pretty cold temps and no wind, makes dense snow/ice. Catamoun...

Re: Fan Guns

Those were made in house, or from someone in house. I think they are called Polar Bears. They started using them in the early 90s. Top gun may have taken that over, not sure Interesting.... 9P9ZBHvCh9Y The fans guns I'm thinking of were larger diameter and shorter depth, but maybe they had a motor ...

Re: Fan Guns

Long before my time, but I think I know what you mean. Did they look like a fan blade on a pole? I was exposed to skiing (and snowmaking) as a youngster at Brodie Mt, where their entire snowmaking fleet consisted of ancient Hedco fan guns that looked like this: https://www.newenglandskihistory.com/...

Re: Closing on the 25th of April...

These guys had one season to clean the slate and get things back on track and they are f'ing that up too. They dropped the ball in October (which was partially understandable considering the weather and early season lift set up) and they're dropping the ball now. There is nothing beastly about sayin...

Re: October 2nd, 1992 - who was there?

Not on October 2nd, but I skied when they re-opened on October 20th. I think it was October 19, 1993 that they picked up about 8" up at the Peak, Cascade was amazing that day.

Anybody remember when they opened Ram's Head for early season skiing in October '97?

Talk about the good old days. I remember June 14, 1992, closing day that year. The day started off with the "Killington Biathalon" consisting of biking and running. Your lift ticket, was good for skiing and mountain biking. Superstar had about 3/4 of the length covered with snow up to 5' d...
