OT: Black Friday
I'm pretty amped about it. I plan on heading to best buy brite and early to get some good deals on some electronics. But I had a question. Does anyone recall any online sites ahveing great deals at certain hours of the day on Black Friday? In particular I'm wondering if sites like backcountrystore and similar will have good deals?

I was thankfully shielded from this Friday shopping phenomenon my entire life until one year when my son was like two and this person was shocked I never woke up at 4am to stand in line with a bunch of materialistic crazies to save $20 on some gadget. So she forced me to go with her (this is before I started skiing so I was probably still in some kind of post-partum schizoid stage and I happily agreed).
What a freaking nightmare. No promise of maternal female comaraderie (and being treated to dunkin donuts and coffee I could barely choke down at 5am) was worth this morning of agony being dragged thru stores by this whacked out chick in search of "the perfect Christmas gift for her cousin Sally."
But life is about learning lessons, and I learned mine. From that day forward I went back to my regular routine of sleeping until at least 11:30 a.m. (I drink xtra wine on Turkey Day) and making sure I get at least one walk around the block before 3pm so as to avoid slipping into a coma.
We also have done the "movie after thanksgiving" thing which is also crowded but not half as bad. Still, call me antisocial but I prefer to stay home, watch something on the big screen, and spare myself the exposure to the masses and all their diseases/annoyances.
I do have one tip for you who are still keen on participating in this: fast sneakers and a super-soaker squirt gun filled with ice-cold water is your friend when you really want that last x-box 360 on the shelf!
Sprite

I do the skiing after Thanksgiving thing. You still have to deal with all the crowds, and you spend almost as much money, but in the end you have nothing to show for it.

Jib - is it true that after whatever they sold yesterday (XBOX 360) they're not getting any more until February? Thats what the guy at the store told my mom...XtremeJibber2001 wrote:Thansk spritesnowsprite wrote:I do have one tip for you who are still keen on participating in this: fast sneakers and a super-soaker squirt gun filled with ice-cold water is your friend when you really want that last x-box 360 on the shelf!

I remember reading that this was part of the sales strategy- intentionally sell limited amounts to build "buzz". all the papers today noted they are sold out all over the place- it gets more attention that way.XtremeJibber2001 wrote:No clue really. Dork,
I've seen forums automatically "parse" (not sure if that is the word) long URLS. That way you do not have to scroll sideways when someone doesn't "URL-ify" their links. Can this system do that?

The prices on thos xbox are so overpriced...just because these people can't wait a few days. My buddy bought one to sell on e-bay...wish I thought of that.
