New Sugarbush / Mad River Glen Message Board

With support from a group of AlpineZone Members, Sugarbush Resort, Mad River Glen, and the Mad River Valley Chamber of Commerce, I'm excited to announce the creation of a new online community dedicated to skiing Sugarbush and Mad River Glen, as well as life in the Mad River Valley overall:

The popularity of KillingtonZone was part of what prompted this idea. Sugarbush and MRG has an equally passionate following so if you're also a Sugarbush/MRG fan, feel free to check it out.

Greg, how come the URL doesn't have anything that associates it with Sugarbush, just Mad River?

It's a good question. We originally were going to go with sugarbushforums.com (which actually does still point to the site), but we felt Mad River Glen may feel a bit slighted. I wanted support from Sugarbush, MRG and the Mad River Valley Chamber of Commerce on this so we came up with SkiMRV.com. The MRVCC was originally called the Sugarbush Chamber of Commerce, but they are striving to create a Mad River Valley "brand" similar to Lake Placid or the Mount Washington Valley. SkiMRV.com also opens the possibilty of a local ski portal that is more than just a message board.

It makes a lot of sense, except for the fact that people looking for simply Sugarbush might overlook it (unless of course you can work your Google placement magic)

Keywords in the domain name help, but take AlpineZone.com for example. I rank #1 for Northeast Skiing on Google without any keywords in the URL...

yeah, we still have to get our butts in gear to get higher for a "Killington" search - I know you had sent some tips on how to do that, and we never implemented it...

GREAT, just what I needed was another board to follow. I know it is good, and I like the people up there. I also need info to plan my trip to MRG. BUT, another board. Oh well, I'll manage, somehow.

When the Sugarbush board went down, someone started a MRG board. The bush people found it and migrated over. I am sure it will happen here also.
I think the MRG board died after one season.

A lot of the former RSN exiles that posted heavily on their Sugarbush forum eventually came over to AlpineZone after RSN shut their forums down. There is one huge thread on AZ that they posted regularly in. The popularity of that thread as well as the success of K-Zone indicated there was a need for a dedicated site for Sugarbush/MRG fans. Some members from that former RSN group helped me with setting up this new site and a few of them are now moderators on SkiMRV.com. "Lostone" is sort of like Sugarbush's version of KBubba posting reports direct from the mountain. He lives up there and gets 100+ days in at the 'Bush every season.
