I don't think they are posting the deal until Saturday. Then it will appear in the online store (I think).

As much as I like Okemo for a diversion, there is no way I would buy a pass there unless it was under $200.

Intrawest Reviews Options to Seek Buyer or Partner
By ELENA CHERNEY
March 1, 2006; Page C6

Intrawest Corp., the Canadian operator of ski and golf resorts, said it is reviewing strategic options that could include the sale of the company, as it seeks to benefit from high real-estate prices.

The Vancouver, British Columbia, company said it hired Goldman Sachs Group Inc. to look at "a capital-structure review, strategic partnerships or business combinations."

To pursue expansion in markets such as adventure travel and other leisure travel, "our board felt we needed to make sure we have the right capital structure," said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Joe Houssian. Mr. Houssian said it is too early to say what kinds of strategic options look the most attractive, but possibilities could include joint ventures or real-estate trusts.

Intrawest holds stakes in 10 North American mountain resorts, including Whistler Blackcomb, which is a site of the 2010 Winter Olympics. The company is developing real estate in Europe and holds a stake in luxury adventure-travel company Abercrombie & Kent.

With the real-estate boom of recent years and the appetite of private-equity firms for resort and real-estate assets, "the company has watched its land holdings appreciate considerably," said analyst William Marks of JMP Securities.

Following the company's announcement of its review yesterday morning, Intrawest shares climbed $2.72, or 9.3%, to $31.84 in 4 p.m. composite trading on the New York Stock Exchange.

Intrawest has been facing pressure from its biggest shareholder, hedge fund Pirate Capital LLC, to produce value from its real-estate holdings. The strategic review "is a step in the right direction," said Stephanie Tran, an analyst with Pirate Capital, Norwalk, Conn. Pirate, which owns an 11% stake, is pushing "a sale of the whole company" as the best way to make money for shareholders, Ms. Tran said. A sale could bring shareholders between $43 and $48 a share, she said. "The market is not valuing the land," she said.

Intrawest, which has gained a foothold in adventure travel with Abercrombie & Kent, aims to expand into other kinds of travel packages and cross-sell its different travel products to customers, Mr. Houssian said. "We want to be the go-to company in the leisure-travel space," he said. The company seeks to cater to baby boomers "who are going to travel more and more. They don't want to sit on a cruise," he said. Mr. Houssian said many leisure travelers will be looking for more "experiential" trips, such as going on safari in Africa or exploring the fjords of Norway on small ships.
