I have found the basic rules work most of the time, and have not had a ticket since. City streets, 5 MPH over MAX. School zone, slower. State roads, 2 lanes or 4, 10 MPH MAX. Highways you can get away with 10 to 15, but usually just shy of the 15. So, in the 65 zone, keep it around 78 or so. They may look, but have never chased me.
AND, I don't have to put up with that stupid detector going off because someone has an alarm or someoe else uses laser technology for god only knows what.
You couldn't be more wrong.

I have a Passport 8500 X50...saved my ass many time when I am cruising up to VT.

This thing can detect radar up to a mile away and over hills and what not. Had the detector go off many times and come up on a cop a little ways up.
Instant ON and Laser just don't hack it. If you are over 75 and he shoots, you are done with no chance to slow down. If you are lucky and cautious, you leave at least one car over a 1/2 mile ahead of you to give you the warning shot. VT loves that instant on crap and they have developed a good waiting habit to pull the trigger.

true dat - laser is just luck. Hopefully there's someone in front of you.

But Ka is still prevelent, and the detector helps a LOT with that.

We do a combination of not going more than 78 in a 65 or more than 5 over the limit for any place else, plus we have an Escort. That baby is worth its weight in gold, it has saved us many times or it has alerted us that there is an officer lurking. There are times it will go off around those traffic signs on the Thruway but it is not enough where it is a nuisance. Knock wood, no tickets yet :)

again, though, Ka is NEVER a false alarm.

Maybe in the future when network wireless comms starts using that bandwidth/spectrum (not sure where it is, Jon4snow may want to chime in here) we'll get falsies in Ka. But until then, Ka is Golden.

I say go with the radar/laser jammer instead. I've driven by cops at 95 mph, made eye contact with them sitting in their car no further than 25' from me as I passed them, and they never pulled out. Guess I didnt need to have Jay pound my beer after all...

Don't waste your money. If you want a detector, get a Valentine One. I hear the escwort x50 is good, but it doesn't have the directional arrows of the V-1.

Of course, your best defense against a ticket is your brain in combination with your eyes. A detector onoly helps when laser or instant-on radar is scanning someone out front and it alerts you to slow down.

All the others are crap. I've had them. Got a V-1 and never looked back. It paid for itself the first day that I used it.

Also, look at any great sports car and see what kind of detector is in it--bet you'll see those V-1 arrows.

I actually tried out a V1 - and returned it. Couldn't stand all those arrows, too distracting. Got the BEL 850 instead

The majority of cops aren't using laser or instant on.

Vermont LOVES the instant on, especially when traveling behind other vehicles and you approach them. You are in the lead and they have you. Hit Laser in CT, NY and MA this week alone. Only takes one.
