Mounting Bindings
I have a big collection of drills, bits, pencils, and even a #3 phillips to drive the screws salomon uses. Unfortunately, no mounting instructions come with the bindings, something the lawyers have seen to, no doubt. I think I'm capable, given some instructions.
Anyone have the skinny on mounting bindings yourself? I'm mounting Salomon S912's.
In particular....
What determines the longitudinal placement of the bindings? Is there a template that goes on the line the top of the ski?
What is the thickness of the shim placed under the toe of the boot? I vaguely remember .5mm
What determines the placement of the heel piece? Should the end of the boot plate just meet the back of the heel cup?
Since the 912s adjust in discreet clicks on the heel piece, do you err on the close or far choice?
How tight should the toe cup wings be?
Should the screws be bedded in some kind of goop to keep water out of the core?
Anything else I should know? (don't drill too deep comes to mind)
Thanks!

its really not that hard, measure twice drill once, if you can find a template(shouldn't be too hard) it'll make it much easier
go get some 2x4's to practice on if you're nervous
Lou Dawson has instructions on how to mount AT bindings over on his website, www.wildsnow.com which will give you an idea what your in for
Plenty of info on TGR on how to self adjust salomon bindings. They're actually one of the more "user friendly" binding designs
as for dis and the "bring it to a shop" comment
why the hell would I bring my expensive skis with directions as to the precise location as to where I want my bindings mounted to some 18 year old new shop tech who at this point of the year has maybe done ONE mount in his whole life? Sounds like a great way to get your skis messed up.(Don't bother replying, cause you're on my ignore list)

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.

$20.00 for mounting a binder?
maybey in 1973....
once the soloman binder is mounted place the boot in the toe, push down on the spine of the boot, to lock in the heel.
place a toe height card under the toe afd.
set the toe height to 0-.5mm
set the wings on toe to center the toe of the boot so there is no side to side lash.
set din on toe and heel.
set the forward perssure(making sure the scribed lines on the tab falls to the lesser side.
buy a lype of VTC binder tester, snap test it at least three times and wax thoes suckes and ski.....

With thanks to the folks at TGR, here's the Salomon instalation and adjustment manual:
Heres the location to download the Salomon Shop manual for 2005/6. It has all the instructions for all the bindings they make and much more besides.
