That was two lanes and a parade of cars coming up the entrance ramp trying to squeeze into 1 lane.

Off 91 at exit 28, then the back way.
Yea, got caught once heading north and once going south.Once each way was enough to learn the way around..
Since we are talking about driving up to VT. I like to stop for gas at the Springfield MA exits. The 1st one as you head into town right passed the HOF. Heading NB. There is a pride (gas station/quickie mart) in there that has the cheapest prices (That i've found). Heading back NB however I lose a couple minutes navigating the nice streets of Springfield b/c of the construction of the NB access lane right next to pride. Anyone know if these lanes are going to be fixed soon? Or if they already are? They looked fairly close to being done if I recall correctly.

I used to live in Bridgeport CT, worked in Darien CT and never ever took I-95. Merritt Pkwy to Wilbur Cross Pkwy directly to I-91 to Hartford. It cuts off 30 minutes of travel time in non rush hour periods. In Friday rush hour its better than an hour.
From Bridgeport, I usually could make Hartford in 0:45, my average time was about 3:15 to 3:30 and my best time ever was 2:55. Yes Virginia, I was not doing the speed limit and I had a very good radar detector. Also, this was before the MA staties started using laser guns.
best way to avoid NYC/NJ/CT traffic is to move 2.5 hours north
My family still lives in Greenwich, CT and I wouldn't move back even if I COULD afford to live there.

and by the way I almost always take the merrit. Although If I could I would take 95-->91. I feel I can go a lot faster on the interstate and there are less hills which = better gas mileage. I am not sure about the gas mileage part... anyone care to offer an opinion.
and cuervo... there is No Way that wilbur cross to 91 in meriden cuts off 30 minutes travel time between HFD and BPT or Dairy-Ann. No Way. I would bet you my car that it doesn't. I've done the trip it seems like 1,000s of times.
I take 95 to exit 27A, rte. 8 North and get the Merrit from there non rush hours.

The biggest issue I have is getting from Stamford to Bridgeport. I can take the merrit all the way to wilbur cross to 91. That is still slow, but better than 95 to 91. They are both bad choices.

Springfield probably looks real cheap compared to Fairfield county, but go another 15 miles North to Northampton. Take the main drag (Rte5) through town and on the N side of town is a string of gas stations that are 10-15 cents cheaper. Great food there also. Easy on-off.

The only problem with living here is it's hard to justify a ski house. So then you drive the hour or so every time and end up driving just as much in total...
