What is with all the Japanese, there was thousands of them at SR, and they were not good skiers, especially when it got skied off. Is the US dollar weak in relation to the Yen these days? Or just a lack of snow back home?
Same here. Lot of Japanese. I'd have to say for the most part they are not very good skiers. But they are out there, having a good time, getting in the way, knocking people down, all of that. Normally they are very polite, so I think they just don't realize that "sorry" is appropriate when that occurs. You can get mad, or just laugh at the mayhem. I choose the latter.
Just before I left the sled dogs were getting busy, passed the ambulance a few times heading down Rt 26. Did not see many troupers out today, must of had the day off.
No, I had no problems with the Japanese, was just surprised to see them in such great numbers, mostly young teenagers. Too bad the conditions weren't better. Where the guns were running snow was decent. Then at the lower elevations you had to change your style back to eastern ice from western soft.
Was at K on Friday and rode the north ridge (glades) triple with a couple from Oregon who were in Boston for the holiday. He now understands why eastern skiers are so good technically because of all the ice.

Yesterday was the day to stay in and watch Bond movies during Spike TV's 007 days of Christmas. The Willy Bogner footage was superb. Today I'm going ice skating and forgetting skiing for a while. It'll prabably be crouded with little ones but loads of fun and little danger for the big ones.

I skied early in the day. I have heard the crowds grew and the conditions deteriorated later in the day. Rick

Asians vacation in December to US ski resorts, as its typically a lull in skier traffic that they try to take advantage of... Still early season deals going on most places, and usually a little less traffic on the hill...not this season.

yes, very international feel out there...rode on the k1 several times as the only english speaker...lots of eastern europeans out there too.
as for the snow, after a couple of wanderings: to skye peak, canyon quad, i found the run to be cascade top to bottom. not nearly as much fun as friday when it was deep and soft (except at the headwall), but it was fast and offered enough areas of soft snow to ski with a bit of abandon. not too many people out there either. unlike friday, no wall of wet snow at the the choke to induce face plants.
