quickest route from Greenfield to K-mart?

Post by dfinn »

I've always gone up 112 to 100 but I think I'm going to try heading up 91 the next time I go. Does anyone know roughly how long it takes to go 91N -> 4W? Or google maps suggests going 91N -> 103N -> 100, is that a better route?

Yes. Roads are windy, but not as much as going through Quechee and Woodstock on 4W. Go slow thru Chester-a ticket happy cop is there, and a funky right hand turn.

Agree here . . . and do be careful through Chester :)

Greenfield to K

91 to 103 to 100 N much faster than to rte 4.
If you opt for 91/89 interchange to rte 4 it's a 45 min ride at the speed limit (lots of happy cops on rt4)

Last two seasons my house was in Bridgewater. I would go to exit 9 on 91 and then take route 4 thru Woodstock. I timed it once. I took exit 6 and drove 103 to 100 to 100a to rt4. Exactly one hour. The next time I took exit 9 but started timing when I passed exit 6, being the point of divergence. Again, it was an hour. Either way it took the same time. Now that Im on the access road I just take exit 6. thats the way Id go...91 to exit 6. from there its about an hour to K.
All the way thru those small town, if the speed limit is 50 you can safely do 60. Ive passed cops doing it. But once you see the speed limit drop, you better be doing it and not a mile over. Especially thru Chester and Ludlow...I think they drop cops from helicopters.

Another vote for the 91->103->100->4 route.
Don't forget to turn right to stay on 103 in Chester and watch for the right onto 100 about a mile after you pass Ludlow.

And if its peak time your traveling, there's a short cut through Ludlow --- but only on the way up. At that fork in the road downtown, take the right that looks like it goes somewhere. It turns into a one-way and will dump you back onto 103 after Okemo. Not worth it if traffic through town is light. But if the tourons are out and about, take it.

my buddy got nailed last year with a $200 ticket around that bend in Chester on 103.

I would still go the 91 -> 103 -> 100 route like he said take it slow in Chester.

Careful taking that Fork in Ludlow. If it is peak time, johnny law tends to watch both sides of that, and it is marked "NO THROUGH TRAFFIC".
