I had season passes at Flatton in the 70's (through 1976). Maybe I did your mother?
Doubtful.......she probably would have been out of your league.
Nah. I've been known to go ugly early.

I agree with Bubba, why does a small amount of preferred parking at one base area even matter?

Besides, if you do want to park at K-1, BoozeTan's solution works quite well.

Or, better yet, go park at Skyeship base or Bear and get up front parking anyway. (Personally, I like Skyeship base for the nice long empty run you get at the end of the day)

There is a lot of chatter here over things we have no clue are going to happen.

back to the "rich people" comment, I think there's an element of truth in that, actually. Not that everyone who comes is rich, but we 'simpah folk just don't have the cash to spend on $30 t-shirts and $130 sushi dinners that a village would offer. We would drive by (or take the bus by) the village every day on the way to the mountain, perhaps visiting it once or twice a season as a curiosity.

In other words, it would mean nothing to us passholders and everything to the tourist who always does RPLs for the whole family and doesn't think twice about plunking down $20 bucks/day for parking and $450/night for a hotel.. why that demographic doesn't just go west, I have no idea.

Well, we might get a slight benefit by listening to timeshare pitches for $150 GCs to area restaurants..

Look at Whistler.. The only locals I saw in the village in the week I was there were employees of shops/restaurants.

I'm an herb, so perhaps I can help.

I don't go west because it costs more, period.

Sure I can go out there and spend the same I would in K, but I'd be staying at a budget hotel, not a condo with a full kitchen and a ski-home trail.

That's why I stay at Killington, here's the deal we got this year for 2 adults, a teenager and a kid....

A two bedroom condo, ski-in, ski-out, lift tickets, and rentals for one of the adults and a kid for three days.......under $1,200.

Yea ... can't beat it.

My buddies and I have rented a ski-in condo, three bedroom, 6 - 5 day lift passes, 5 - 5 day rentals ... for < $500 a person. That's clutch!

Out west for something similar would run easily over $1K.

I know why *you* don't go out west.
The question was why that demographic doesn't go out west.

Since I'm part of that demographic, I think I answered it quite well.

I could stay at K for a week and get rentals and lodging and lift passes for $500 a person. I still have plenty of money to checkout Santa Fe and get surf and turf ... go down the road and drink my face off. Pay a huge cover at an Access Road bar. I can go ice skating, snowmobiling, and tubing ... and stay under $1000 for the week.

Out west, the above would be close, if not over, $2000

Now if money is no option, I have no idea why you wouldn't go out west ... aside from having your young children next to you on a plane for 10 hours round trip

you're 22 years old. even if you have money, you're not part of the demographic.

I'm 23 now :D

Anyways, regardless of age, how does this matter?

My friends and I spend a good amount of money at K ... the bars, the shops, parking, rentals, beer, ski accessories from the Basin shop, lift passes, lodging, base lodge food, etc.

I guess what I'm asking is ... you mean I'm NOT a herb?

No, you're a herb. Standard middle class herb that Killington is marketing to....which is fine. They are offering good deals, which is fine too.

What Steve is refering to is rich herbs, which is one of the groups of customers that the Village will cater to. He's wondering why they wouldn't just go out west.....or to Stratton, or Stowe, or Okemo.....and the answer is....they will. There aren't that many rich herbs who stick around the east for their vacations....the market is tight, and they will go elsewhere, unless Killington has the product.

Do you know how many people own houses and condo's on the mountain?

I can only speak for myself. I want the additional restaurants and shops that the village will bring. If will also increase the value of my house in the area, because it will be a more desired location for a second home. We pay outlandish Property taxes for the services we get. Now if we can gain a benefit, for a village so be it. Daytrippers, keep in mind we have invested in the area.

If you don't like what they do. You know what you can do. March with your feet to another ski area.
