Holy smokes was it crowded this A.M.
At only 8:15 I had to sneak into Bay 1 by the Snowdon Quad to get a spot.

Another refresh last night that felt stupendous underfoot in most places.
I intended to do Upper Bunny->Mouse Trap->Lower Bunny, but I was magnetized into the fresh starting at the top cement block for the Poma line.
Bunny woods complete with an enclosed "Coops made of trees".
LR, Patsy's, and some Snowdon trees all excellent.
Left the forest to take a run down untracked Header which had a light crust on top.
I intended to hitch back to KBL, but indeed It's better to be lucky than smart - they started running one of the Snowshed doubles as I got to the bottom of Ram's Head.

Stopped to say "hello" at the 10:00 and then it was back up Snowdon.
Was gonna take a run across to Swirl, but ran into friends and hiked with them.
ROTD was Horn->SC (also called J)->bottom of Squeeze Play which was so good I came back again.

I may go back for the SSDD fest, but did I mention it was crowded?
When I left the K1 bays, Vale, Snowshed and the access road down to the Vale lot entrance were all full. RH lot was filling rapidly.

I want to give a shout out to Attila who I met at Swiss Farm this A.M.
He's an artist who combines taxidermy with helmet covers.
You might have seen him wearing a white wolfskin looking like a Teutonic warrior going warp speed down the groomers.
My personal favorite is his wolverine head.

I didn't get out until after 11:00, needing to catch up on sleep, but today was superb. I did laps at Bear for a couple of hours before heading over to KBL and on to Snowdon for laps on Chute, Mouse and Great Bear. The only words to describe today are cream cheese - everywhere. As for the crowds, at 11:15, the access road had cars parked all the way down to the entrance to the Rams Head lot, and the Snowshed and much of the upper Snowshed lots were full. They had to open up one of the Snowshed doubles as well as the Skye Peak Quad to handle the hordes. Lots of lost and confused people up on the hill, many newcomers to Killington and others who hadn't skied here in years.

Today is proof that you can market spring skiing and the top management's pronouncements explaining the shortening of the season that we've been listening to for the past couple of years are total BS, rationalizations for the failure that has been delivered. SP Land and Powdr Corp. take note - the past few years are proof that you can't shrink yourself to greatness! Shrink the corner office and let's move on.

A-F****NG-MEN!

It was simply sickening to watch today as HOARDS of people came up wanting to ski, and who had every right to expect "full winter conditions and services", but were met by a resort that was simply not ready to provide. i still can't believe how many people were at Kton today, and that there was only ONE base lodge with food service... set up a BBQ and beer tent @ Bear for god's sake... it would have taken them 20 minutes, by borrowing a crew of hands from the grand hotel, and they could have even postponed the decision until after they confirmed the hoardes of people at bear the day of...

I was mostly at the race today . . . . yes, the Killington Klassic and they were not prepared for all the extra people from all over the Northeast . . . and, if I was given the correct information . . . they finally had to run one of the chairs at Snowshed . . . and cars were parked all the way down the road to the entrance of Ramshead - unbelievable . . . but, it was all good!!!

Hope you're prepared for tomorrow Killington . . . so, all these visitors for the Killington Klassic to not leave with a bad taste in their mouth :)

Oh, and when I was paying for my beer, the bartender was trying to stuff money in the tip bucket and it was popping out . . . I jokingly said that it must be a good day when you have to cram your tips down . . . and he mentioned that in his nine years, this was the busiest the bar had been . . . and that is with two bars open

I think Killington was really, really surprised today

Got to the Mt at 8 am parked by the Snowdon Quad. People parked what ever way they felt like it a free for all. I ski from the car so I avoided the KBL lodge till lunch.Rode SSQ, K1, Glades, skyship, ss-all the chairs on the K side. Did many runs inlcuding wander, cross over to crusie, sky lark, ss, back to the K-1 and stayed up in the glades are. Then we went to snowdon did Chute, Great Bear, North star and Caper...all creamy and dreamy...Did many runs. I really wanted to do Cascade, but didn't want to ski to the bottom. Rode snowdon quad till the line got long and went to lunch like 11:30. Got back out at 12:30 and skied till 2:45.

Great snow, but too many people. 8)

Today was great and, as usual, I wish it lasted longer. Started my day doing Cascade with the Snow Princess and it was in great shape. We then headed over to Snowdon and we hit Vagabond first thing and it was sweet. After that we got first tracks on Great Bear with Skiboardfreak. We then skied all the trees runs that are there and found great coverage. We skied a Royal Flush and then we headed over to Bearl. We did a Roundabout which was superb for this time of the year. Once at Bear we skied the Fiddle - another great run if you watched where you were skiing. By this time, the kids were hungry so we headed back to the other side skiing Somewhere to Sky Bits on the way. We went to KBL where we found it very crowded but we did manage to get our samples of Ben and Jerry ice cream. The new flavor Cinnamon Bun is pretty good but I still prefer Cherry Garcia. After lunch we headed up the K1 and did a Heavenly Traverse to get to Powerline which was in good shape including the lower part. We had a 4 year old with us that wanted to do that run. While in that area I also skied West Glade and it was sweet as well. The crowd I was with wanted to ski East Fall after that and that was in good shape as well. I then headed up the Superstar quad to do Ovation top to bottom. The headwall had decent snow, middle had very good snow and lower had good snow once you got past the rock garden. After that I headed back to Snowdon and did another Patsys and I finished my day doing a Conclusion run. I might have forgotten some other runs we diid but everything was so good that it didn't really matter where you were.

Edit: Great turnout for HH at Sushi Yoshi. Where was Icedtea the initiator for this HH? Great to see everyone again especially since I missed the 10 AM meeting. Keithus what happened to you?

The last week has made up for the disappointing month we spent up here in Dec/Jan. It’s clear that K are trying to run out their time with as little expenditure as possible. The conditions have been fantastic this and last week (certainly the best I can remember at K) but the whole place felt like it was the last day every day recently. I don’t think I had my pass checked my last 4 or 5 outings.

Apparently Okemo was empty today.

if you couldn't enjoy the mountain today, just give up. sun was shining through, warm breezes, snow conditions are sick for mid-april. excellent cover everywhere. so there were some liftlines and kbl was snug. on-mountain was relatively empty. no one in the trees. feeling very grateful for today's experience!

Where were you today? Your buddy Hollywood was trying to raise you on the radio using your old moniker (Magnum).

i caught him on the radio a few times. he had already done snowdon trees, and we hadn't. got a late start. started at bear/needles in the AM, then spent the afternoon in snowdon. cole and mom hit kbl around 1:30, griffin and i 5 runs later. couple beers, t-shirts and tattoos (missed the ice cream), then up and back over. great day - plus the RANGERS are up 2-0!!!

1000 pardons. By 6:00 I was well into my cups up at the Clear River Inn.
I didn't drive back to K until this A.M.

Unbelievable day of skiing - can't remember the last time I skied Royal Flush in April. Thanks Doc for showing me some of the "goods", had a great time with you.

Saturday made me remember how it used to be at Killington in the Spring - hopefully, the Beast of the East will return with the new ownership.

Capped off the day by picking up one of the last pair of the Volkl All Stars at Peak Performance.
