It is close to 6PM and there still is no power at the Mountain, however it appears as if power has been restored to the lower part of the Access Road.
Once it was clear this morning that Killington wouldn't open anytime soon, Doria and I went to Woodstock. Power went down while we were there, and there appeared to be no power in Bridgewater, either. We stopped at the Long Trail Pub for lunch. At first it appeared as if they had electricity, but we later found out they were on generators. Power and an inexhaustable supply of beer. For a couple hours, that was pretty good.
Back in Killington, there was power down by Rte 100 south, and up at Turn of River. We headed on to Rutland, where we'd heard there was significant damage. There are numerous down trees, mostly large solitary pines, which don't have much root structure, and heavy r*in, followed by high winds makes them very vulnerable. Older trees, mostly with some rot, also had large downed limbs. There were a few trees, some as much as 10" in diameter just snapped off. Based on the damage, I'd guess there were sustained gusts in excess of 65 mph, but probably not hurricane force.
Temperatures up here have been hovering a little above freezing, but it may cool off tonight. If you own a residence that is without power, I would not expect pipes to freeze, it will take considerably colder temperatures for that to occur (I have way too much experience with freezing pipes...)
I suspect Bear had power today. Too bad they didn't open that...
