what about jerseyguy?
Hey, leave me out of that comment!

By the way, Spin, that was just a horrible response. I mean... awful. If you and your fellow short-timers in K-Management were up to your elbows in tree limbs and downed power lines all day helping out the good people of the Rutland area, that's one thing. But you weren't. You were sitting on your brains up at Killington, using the total lack of power in another area as an excuse to take a break for the day.

Save the righteous anger for another day. You may indeed have been angry, but there was nothing righteous about your situation.

forecast doesn't seem to indicate a windy day. could there be some icing? the report does say 'weather' but maybe there's still power issues. if that's the case, i believe the plan was to run the k1 on diesel today anyway.

Just wondering here, having just spent an hour on K1, and being of the "always have a back-up plan" type... Isn't the diesel the back-up plan?

What happens if the diesel breaks, and the power is still off? Are they betting an evac against the diesel, or is there a teeny pony motor also?

from spin's update yesterday: "Power has been restored to everything except the Peak and the K-1 Gondola, thus backup power for Wednesday and maybe Thursday." but good question, is there a backup to the backup?

In most DR plans, there should be.

dP wrote:so I went up to ski K hoping they would have power. All the surrounding towns are a mess, tons of trees down as you locals already know. Got to Rutland and it was a full out blizzard, I was getting really excited, got to rt. 100, called the K snow phone, still closed so hopped on 100 N to the bush. Went through blizzards, down pours, and then got held up waiting for a tow truck to pull some guy out of stream on 100. Finally get to the bush at 9:30 to be disappointed. First of all, I haven't been to the bush in 2 years, that place is awesome. Arguably the best and most unique terrain on the east coast IMHO. But, back to the disappointment. I didn;t get to read the snow report, but from my perspective they groomed about 8-10 trails (a sh*tty groom at that) and the rest was left natural (grooming staff on vacation/layoff?) Natural trails were made up of a sogging 1.5 ft of snow. That stuff sucked you right in and was slower than ___ ___ ___. (fill in your own analogy). But, Sugarbush got great PR by saying LP 100% open!!! Good for them, I wouldn't ride 80% of their mountain yesterday. Almost every trail was a huge disappointment, they didn't even groom their mini park, which is at the base and is about 100 yards long. I figured at worst I could just do laps in the park today, but no!! I was about as disappointed in Sugarbush as I was Mother Nature, stepped off the trail for a smoke break, unstrapped and immediately sunk to waist deep. They got tons of snow up there, but it's pretty well ruined for now. A frusturating 20th day, but met my goal and I'm done for the season.
I had the same experience at Okemo yesterday. Really sucked riding in that sh*t.
