I have a question that I hope someone can answer for me. If I fly into Reno tonight and can only rent a two wheel drive car can I get to the mountain?

The only reason I ask is that delta has a last minute flight deal and you have to rent a car but 4 wd isnt available.

Maybe it's two unicycles

Make sure you get the hard top model, it's cold out there.

If you don't have snow tires and 4WD, you need chains, otherwise they won't let you through the pass. Request chains or buy them at Pep Boys while you're out there.

You most certainly will need chains. Highway patrol will setup checkpoints and will turn you around if you do not have them. You will not be able to buy them at the airport, but can probably find them within a short distance from the airport. I have done this many times.

Chains will get you pretty much anywhere. Even on a RWD car.

Won't he just end up going in circles when he hits the snow with this configuration?

You could also hop the bus to South Lake

They have an office at the end of the baggage claim area where you can buy tickets.

That's what I did, wasn't too expensive. They leave every hour or so.

Nice guys, you were a great help to a newby. Left side or Right indeed. Besides, NONE OF THOSE CARS are ture 2 wheel drive. Only one wheel actually will make the car go. Hang that wheel up and you all know the results.

As for Chains, some rentals will not allow chains on the car due to damage they can cause. Others, I believe National or Avis, actually will rent the chains to you with the car. You accept all liability if they come loose and chew the fender off.

Front wheel drive with chains would be the way to go. Just wish I was goin too, 2 wheel, 4 wheel, chains or no chains, I wanna go.
