too bad you'll miss the party, but glad you had fun.
I be back, perhaps in 2 weeks. So far did Algonquin and Big Slide, any suggestions for future hikes? I'm thinking Gothic or Giant
did Giant once, camped on top of the first peak before Giant proper, what a way to enjoy some coffee with the morning fog sitting in the valleys and only the highest peaks visible.
Short steep hike from the closest road access.
this is great early season ski training, both up and down. beats the hell out of being in the wieght room.

I'm jealous, having a tough time talking my wife in camping out overnight. Just hoping I can do it in time for tux.

did it solo. my better half likes the mtn top hike/camp but this one is tough. that's ok though, there should be a few solo outings per year, this one is worthy. just leave no trace as i'm sure you already know.

that time of year, possible snow/ice--giant would be a good choice. gothics is a bit tricky rock scrambles, especially with ice or snow. forecast calling for snow this friday evening and temps dipping into 40's during the day. you can also always do cascade and porter. two easiest high peaks and wont be as crowded now.

Thanks, although we love a good scramble, it's not too good in snow and ice.

We did Gothics via Upper WJ and Armstrong and down from the col between Gothics and Armstrong. That was about 13 miles too. A long arduous hike for sure.
Next on the list is Dial and Nippletop. Perhaps next weekend.

We came down over Pyramid Peak, great views from there. Nippletop looked real interesting.

I want to go over Sawteeth as well the next time.
Do you do any backcountry skiing in the high peaks?
I just got geared up for this seson-hopefully it'll be a good snow year!

No, took our first trip to the Adirondacks a month ago, never been there before. Just wanted to get familiar with the area for 1) Hiking and 2) Planning on checking out Whiteface this season.

cool andyzee. you are going to be a 46r before me, i better get moving. where did you take nippletop pic from? it looks more like noonmark. it could be that the grass is confusing me. i dont recall being able to see it from that vantage point from Ausable club.
Did you try and get on the bus or was that not running anymore. if you can get the bus, you miss that whole slog in on the dirt road. I pretend i know what i am doing and just go in club and buya ticket. havnt been turned down yet.

Actually that pic was taken from the beginning of the Lake Rd by the Ausable club. As far as the bus is concerned, didn't even see any buses. This was our first time there, so I didn't have a clue as to how things work with the club.
With regards to being a 46er, well only got three in so far, could have done more. But, there's always next year :)

In the summer the club runs a bus to the lakes for its members. I heard that you can just go in and buy a ticket and cut off 4 miles. Its worked so far. Nobody asks me a question. I've hiked in too--thats not the problem, its usually the last 4 on the way out. Did you not do armstrong with gothics?
