New owners making lots of enemies.
Don't get to excited about the up coming season. With the mass layoffs and cutbacks on employees benefits, you will not be seeing to many smiling faces from employees. They call those new so called low energy guns because they make half the amount of snow. Snow so light it blows right across the trail, never to be seen again. The older k 3000 land guns could bury a trail in no time. Powdr is making a big mistake taking everything away from the employees, some of which made a career working outside loving being one on one with what ever nature through at them. Many 15 to 30 year veterans were sent down the road. Very sad indeed. Look for 1st year people who only want the job for the ski pass and International workers who can barely speak any English to be at your service.

That is sad indeed and I wonder about the quality of the product without veterans to do the work.growing rage wrote:Don't get to excited about the up coming season. Re: New owners making lots of enemies.
I disagree. The entire mountain has been mowed -- first time in the seven years I have been here. Lifts are being painted and restored. Noticeable changes. This summer they had lounge chairs and tables and chairs just outside the K-1 and many used them. The mountain biking really took off this year. The K golf course was in the best shape it had been in for many years. They have removed the water slide and are cutting a path from Superstar over to the K-1 so won't have to do the hike in front of the K-1 Lodge to get to the gondola. Path on skiers' left near the bottom of Superstar. They want to change the image of Killington -- get rid of the K-Mart image and have a more upscale clientele. It will take time, but it will happen. They have a two-year and a six-year plan. Already more season passes have been sold then ever before -- in part because all the passes are now purchased at or through Killington - rather than people buying an All-East pass at resorts in NH to save on the taxes. Every dollar made will go back into Killington rather than to other ski areas and to management and Board Members pockets.growing rage wrote:Don't get to excited about the up coming season. There is no way they can run as many guns with the quality everyone is used to with a smaller inexperienced workforce. Those poor guys were stretched as thin as they could be last year. I suppose this explains the closing of lifts during the week, not to mention a very short season. Lets hope for lots of natural to make up for all this. As far as the water slide, how often is Ovation open anyway? It's low priority.

How about this take. They came in with the guns shooting. They get the bad stuff out of the way first. Fired lots of people and kept some too. Didn't honor the "lifetime" passes (actually they did honor the 35 or so true "lifetime" passes. The others were absurd - bought and sold many times and for those who bought them in the 60's made their money ten times over. Probably will be a second round of firings in the Spring. They kept a couple of bad guys to do the bad stuff - they they will most likely go later. They have already saved so much by lowering the staff expenses. Then people start noticing the changes and after having such negative press, things start to look good. Expectations are low so anything positive looks good. They know EXACTLY what they are doing.growing rage wrote:There is no way they can run as many guns with the quality everyone is used to with a smaller inexperienced workforce. K will NOT open until November 15th - "no matter what." However, IF the weather conditions are cold enough to make snow and get natural snow earlier (without the following week forecast to be in the 70's), they just might open on weekends sooner. People don't expect it, then they are very pleased. They just are not making promises and then have people disappointed and angry.

Blow mounds or whalebacks....let sit 24-72 hrs...move snow to where it is needed...simple as that....but will k=fart do that?growing rage wrote:K won't make production snow anymore. Only powder which is great but it's only good for the first 2 hours. I guess time will tell. I live closer to Sugarbush anyway. I love their terrain.
I say Nope.
Ski the MRG valley.

But the system that dissed us
Teaches us to read and write
So called facts are fraud
They want us to allege and pledge
And bow down to their God
Lost the culture, the culture lost
Spun our minds and through time
Ignorance has taken over
Yo, we gotta take the power back!
