Your taking that quote out of context... I said that in reference to the Superstar trails, not the resort operations as a whole. I want K to have the biggest, longest season in the east! I want K to be open right now, and I want them to run well into May. But me wanting these things isn't going to make them happen. If I let myself ponder over these things, and get angry about them, and just never get over it, then im going to have a shitty time at K this season, nothing they do will ever be good enough, and i'll never be satisfied, no matter how good it really is. I am just letting any bad thoughts drift away, and just thinking happy thoughts!! I am in my happy place! And if I keep doing that, and let K take care of business, we'll be skiing and riding the best and most terrain in the east in no time, on the best conditions we've seen in a long time, and we can all have a great season no matter what! And with any luck, the season will be extended a bit!!!

From what I see, until they replace the two Snowdon lifts with a 6-pack where they can upload and download with the early skiing off the Glades triple, you're not going to see an early opening very often.

They've already gone on record saying "less lifts, same or more uphill capacity". Yanking the two Snowdon lifts is a big labor saver on weekends when they're strapped. You don't need much in the way of competence for the liftie loading the chairs. They just need to know how to hit the red kill switch.

With a high speed lift there, all they'd need to do is relocate the handle tow from the bottom of Rams Head up to Killink to get people the couple hundred yards from the Great Northern wrap-around back to the top of Snowdon. A chainsaw to cut a handle tow liftline next to Killink for the handle tow, run electricity to a concrete pad for the handle tow motor, and they're good to go for reliable October skiing.

To get to June 1 economically, they really need an upper mountain lift to K Peak so they can upload and download on the K1. They'll have the Snowdon Triple and Snowdon Quad to use. Running it up Escapade with the top bullwheel next to the sled dog door on the east side of the K Peak lodge makes the most sense. When you want to download, you walk up the stairs and up to the K1. I hate to lose Escapade as a natural snow trail but a June 1 trail pod of Escapade, Cascade, and Downdraft is the way to go. I doubt this management would spend the money since they're unconcerned with maintaining the Killington brand so we're likely looking at a May 1 closing.

 Dumb. Dream on.

Why not just use the K-1 fro uploading and downloading, and put a handle tow or portable rope tow on Upper downdraft? It's 400 ft, the lodge is right there, and you don't have to cut anything down.

[quote]For the millionth time, how in the hell is that going to actually work???? Are people going to hike back up to that????

There's plenty of solutions for early season sking but that sure as hell isn't one of them..... [\quote]

You didn't exactly finish reading his post, did you?

A handle tow up Killink would work fine. base of it near the intersection of GN/Killink, going up either Killink, or a line cut through the woods straight up to the peak.

Either way, it'd be cheap.

It's still quite a retarded idea. A 700 foot long handle tow? Humm...and then you get to walk back up to the lift? Yeah, that will fly. Bad lodge access? Waiting for them to blow a lift up snowdon? Yeah, this has about as much chance of happening as hell freezing over.

Look. The best place for high elevation skiing at Killington is on the peak, with access from the K-1. PERIOD. The peak lodge is up there. It's at the highest elevation. The K-1 EXISTS and is very comfortable to upload and download on.

The only thing needed is one lift. Either a handle/rope tow somewhere (downdraft), or a short chairlift wherever you please, there are many viable options.

Handle tow? Come on now. First, none of this is going to happen. But, if we really want to play fantasty resort operator, why wouldn't you just turn the K-1 into a two stage lift?

Ive never heard that, and that is prefect! Right at the base area of escapade and cascade... It can run into the midstation when it wants to, or keep running right to the top, over the station, midseason when it would have no purpose!

What about an elevator from somewhere near the top of canyon to near the top of K1. or an escalator... or something ala whiteface auto road's trick to get you all the way to the top of the mtn.

that'd get the pod of skiing at glades accessible, and get you back to the summit for downloading on the K1.

If they kept snow on downdraft and great northern, you could elect to ski down to glades... ski there till your done, and then ride the elevator back to the peak when you're done for the day.

Why a sixpack??? Wouldn't a fully operational high-speed quad, which doesn't stop every 5 minutes, have enough capacity to replace the slow triple and quad combined??
Es war sehr schoen.
Over ten years... not including RSN or K-Chat. Way too much time wasted.
