I'm sitting next to Shortski sucking down Long Trail drafts. Junior just bailed out to go take a shower. I guess Yankees fans are exiting early this year. No G-Smashed. T somehow seems wrong to be at the corner of the bar without his presence.
Skiing was great. Upper Chute to Mouse Trap was the run of the day. Many laps in the soft manmade. The moungain is empty. I was planning to ski 8 to 10 but the people never showd up. Killington has fixed their crowding problem. Early happy hour at Charitys.

We fell into that "draft Long Trails with Shortski" thing yesterday . . . headed home today - we have to unpack some time 
Agree with Geoff, skiing was great, Snowdon definitely the best - Upper Chute and Mouse Trap were awesome . . . and, no crowds

I actually have to respectfuly disagree with the posters above. I just got back from skiing, and the parking lot is pretty full. Their are plenty of skiers just not any novices this year. I wouldn't say there are any more or less skiers than last years opening weekend.
I actually think the trail configuration and lift setup works better than last year, and the product is good.

I also disagree with there being a lot less people, they just have tons of terrain spreading people out. In the Saturday thread, I show the pic of the parking lot, to show it is basically full as it always has, and the snowmaking on Skye Lark and Bittersweet. Last year the opening was on a holiday weekend, so they did run into vale a bit then, but otherwise it just fills the K1 lot, which they accomplished for the most part today...dansbusy wrote:I actually have to respectfuly disagree with the posters above. But the parking lot is nearly as full as it always has, I know the lifts and trails appear empty, but why is the parking lot full? Are there less people in each car? I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but K1 lot is almost if not as full as any other year... I'd like to point out to idiot boy that in years past, the K lot, Vale lot, Snowshed lot, and Ramshead lot would all be pretty full this weekend. In a typical year, this would be the 3rd or 4th weekend of operation.
As a passholder, I am delighted. If I were worried about day ticket revenue or if I had a business on the access road, I would be concerned.
It was very refreshing to be able to ski Killington on a November Saturday and not worry about being run down like a dog. The low skill people on twin tips and snowboards seem to have gone elsewhere. I guess a 60 dollar day ticket and 600 dollar blackout pass did the trick. Sunday River last Saturday sucked. It's not lost on me that a Maine pass is much cheaper and their day ticket was 20 with 3 cans of food.
If these guys come to their senses and spin the lifts through the first weekend of May, I see no reason not to stay at Killington.

I've been coming here for over thirty years, and there isn't any more or less people this opening weekend. Perhaps there are less skiers from killingtonzone? I am new to this blog, but everyone I have known up here and skied with is here this weekend.

If you can get a seat at the Mahogany Ridge bar at noon on a Saturday, the place is empty. Yes, the K-1 lot is more full than yesterday but the mountain is still empty. I've been here this same weekend any number of times when I had to part down in the Vale lots and take a shuttle up to K-1 or park on the access road below Superstar. None of that is happening today. Killington has successfully managed their supposed crowding condition. As a passholder, I love it. I just don't understand the business model that plans success around driving your customers away.

Grasshopper, normal opening weekend had cars all the way down the access road, the K parking lot when I left a 1:53PM was only the first four bays and none of them was full. Nyberg at the owners meeting estimated opening day at 900, today maybe 200-300 more, way below normal opening weekend for Killington.
