New "Management"--WORST MOVE YET!!!!

Post by TeleTim »

I am mostly just a lurker here but when I heard this today I just had to put this info out there. While I disagree with most of the changes that Nyberg has made there can at least be an argument made that he is trying to improve the operation of the mountain (although it seems he does not have a clue!).

So in the lodge today I was talking to an old couple at the next table and the guy tells me that under American Skiing Co the veterans of the original 10th Mountain Division, the ones who trained in the mountains of Colorado went to fight in Italy for us in some of the worst fighting in the entire war, the ones who basiclly established the ski industry in this country when they returned, got to ski for free.

So you know what' comming right? Get ready for it.....I know it is just too stupid to believe......Killington is no longer letting the 10 Mountain Div. veterans ski for free!!!!!

When I heard this I just stood there speechless. How could these idiots be that stupid and heartless. These guys are all over 80 years old for crying out loud. In a few years none of them will be skiing at all! This is how we show respect for these men who did so much for our country and the ski industry? Is Nyberg from Canada or something?(sorry Canada).

We all have to do something about this. We need letters written to every newspaper in New England and all the ski publications. This needs to be on every ski message board out there. We need to exposed these clowns for the heartlless, cheap, morons they are. I am sorry to keep insulting thier inteligence but who could have thought this was a good idea???? Can you imagine someone sitting a table an saying they thought this is what they should do? Is Nyberg trying to get fired? Is he looking to collect unemployment?

Help me out here folks--Take this and RUN

Before the mob gets all up and bothered and starts assembling for a lynching...

Can someone please contact Nyberg and confirm?

can anyone actually GET to Nyburgh and complain?

all my e-mails bounce back and phone calls go unreturned(I am just a peon though)

perhaps someone with more clout?
Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.

Why make an effort to contact someone who obviously doesn't give a sh*t about what you have to say anyway?
Putting your questions into the "Ask Killington Forum" might get you a quicker response.
Even if that response is "next question"

Wasn't there also some sort of "over 70" club that got to ski free? If this is gone, that must be gone too.

Wouldn't it be discriminatory for them to offer free skiing to one group of veterans and not another? The 10th didn't get into the fighting until January of 1945. Three months before V-E day. And why skiing? The 10th never fought a single battle on skis. Not one.

The men of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF THE 10TH MOUNTAIN DIVISION have skiied for free for years not because they're war heros, but because they're all connected with the NSAA and the National Patrolers. I'd give them free passes just for being retired patrollers.

T he 70+ Ski Club was founded five years ago by Lloyd Lambert, now 80 years old. As Mr. Lambert has discovered, delicacy among skiers regarding advancing years is quickly replaced by eagerness to enjoy the benefits of the club, which includes free or discount skiing at dozens of ski areas. One woman sent in her application six months before her 70th birthday, commenting, ''I can hardly wait until I'm 70.'' Others begin writing letters of inquiry when they are in their 50's.

The participating ski areas include not only modest, local slopes but such dignitaries as Mt. Mansfield and Bolton Valley in Vermont and Whiteface, Gore, Belleayre and Hunter Mountain in New York. In fact, Mr. Lambert has a seven-page list of ski centers that will honor the 70+ membership card with free or half-price lift tickets

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.h ... wanted=all

Okemo give half price for 70+ $45

Jay is $19 for 65+

Killington 65-69 weekday $61 Holidays & Sat $65. 70+ weekdays $53 Holidays & Sat $55
Cogito, ergo sum

Sometimes it is that simple.

Many, not all mountains used to have the over 70 crowd ski free. Now there are so many over 70 still skiing they are removing it, but providing discount passes for them. Killington did not announce such a pass early enough for most older than that to not take advantage of the early season passes. ASC was providing a pass for $200 I believe if you were over 70.

10th Mtn Division trained at Pico and Pico had always allowed them to ski there. For free or discounts I do not know.

Killington cut out pretty much all comp tickets as part of their effort to detox the resort. As a customer, I applaud the initiative since it has made the resort much more civilized.

Instead of f-ing prepetually bitching about the place, f-ing go ski somewhere else rather than f-ing sucking the oxygen out of the room with your chronic complaining.

I'm headed back out to ski more untracked at Mt Baker. Enjoy your miserable life complaining.

Not to mention the fact that I believe Teletim's story is untrue. Maybe he thinks it's true, he's just relaying it. But someone somewhere made this up.
