I find it funny...
that down here in CT, Killington is bombarding the radio with ads about "the largest snowmaking system on the planet" when they supposedly already sent home the snowmakers and sent out the compressors.....false advertising?

not false advertising....it would be if they said they were blowing snow and they were'nt....they are just stating fact that they have the largest snowmaking system, if you want to assume they are currently using it, thats your mistake ("your" not meaning you, but the general public)

I asked one of the Killington Mountain ops people, high enough on the food chain to know, what metric was used to determine that Killington had the largest snow making system on the planet. There are a number of measures that could be used: total acreage covered, compressed air capacity, etc. His answer was actually fairly simple: gallons per minute up the hill. Apparently that is where Killington kicks ass. While it is true that they've sent back some of the rented compressors, there are still at least 5 remaining on line at Snowshed (don't know about Bear). These are in addition to whatever "year round" capacity they have. At this time of year, with much colder temperatures (except for today), they probably need a whole lot less air than early season anyway. Also, the continuing investment in Low E guns means they need less air anyway. Do they have enough to do capacity to do a rapid and complete resurfacing? Probably not, but base depths all over the mountain are pretty substantial. I don't know about the labor situation, but guns are still in place over most of the terrain; they probably need less labor to restart than at the beginning when they were moving a lot of equipment. I have a lot of issues with POWDR; snow making isn't one of them.

Do they even have year round capacity anymore..I think they got rid of all of them.rogman wrote:I asked one of the Killington Mountain ops people, high enough on the food chain to know, what metric was used to determine that Killington had the largest snow making system on the planet. Besides, the ad is technically true. They do have the biggest snowmaking system in the world... because they HAVE to. The fact that they aren't USING much of it anymore ain't their problem, Jack.
So they waited until the season was half over to finally start telling people about a snowmaking program that's just about to come to a grinding halt. So what? Wait'll you hear their great ads about spring grooming and events, coming to a Connecticut radio station near you in early- to mid-May!

Rumor has it that the VSAA took Sugarbush to task for their snow reports. Anyone know anything about this?JerseyGuy wrote:K-Marketing Rule #27: False or Misleading Advertising is (apparently) better than No Advertising.
