From the Killington web site info on BMMC:
The action in the spectator venue will be lively with bring your own barbeque and lawn chair viewing areas set up. There will be a barbeque competition on Saturday featuring awards for best appetizer, entrée and desert.
I imagine that if people are discrete about the alcohol, it's not going to be a problem.

My guess is that Powder is just playing CYA. They are playing CYA because of the insane actions of the VT liquor control board. They are beyond control.

As college student in Burlington I witnessed firsthand the tactics of the liquor board. They were on campus on a regulr basis. They would pull student over for walking on a friday night and ask to search their bags. They would breathalize anyone with liquor on their breath and charge them with minor in possesion. (yes it is against the law to drink underage but this tactic is excessive for someone walking on a private college campus on a friday night.) What if I drank in Montreal and them came back to Burlington am I illegal? They would jail me.

The bottom line is that this group and their START team (a posse of local police cruisers that will drive on your lawn and surround your house if you are having a party where they might think someone is underage) is a bunch of gunslinging powermongers.

The sad part is they have ruined a number of alcohol fueled events that were traditions. St. Mikes P-Day and 3/17 has been crippled. The school is so afraid of the VT liquor board they just have a vacation scheduled for 3/17 no. In fact that whole campus has been damaged by the police state of the winooski/burlington/alco board posse. Even the state liquor inspector herself has been seen checking grocery bags of students emptying their trunks.

The even sadder part is that they are killing the vacation experience at the ski area. I was just at Jackson hole. They allow open containers at the base of the mtn. You can buy your PBR at the convenicne store or at the bar. Your call. Free market competition. You can drink in a chair in the sun. In fact, they held the world beer quaffing championships there.
http://www.basecampcomm.com/2008/02/28/ ... pionships/ notice me and my sister drinking in the background.

Looks like red state WY is showing blue state VT and how to be free and progressive. I dont need to buy a gun with no questions asked but I do need to be able to drink a beer at BMMSC without having to play cops and robbers with the VT liquor control board and without being forced to purchase via the only game in town. They already got my $80 for a ticket and the requisite chili/hamburger post race.

What an American disgrace. Soon VT and BMMC will have a drug problem. Oh wait they already do.

But I'm sure it would be okay with some "orange juice" or some "clear carbonated beverages" or maybe even some "carbonated apple juice"

BTW the takeaway from my rant is that you should carry on as usual. Just bring your coozies, red cups and let the politics carry on as usual.

The following is the feedback I've received from the state DLC:
DLC will be patrolling however we can not dictate that the mountain cease allowing the slopside parties.

Education, Licensing & Enforcement
So...it sure looks to me like it's the resort's decision, not the state.

Same answer I got from Goggins, still waiting for a response from:

tom.curran@state.vt.us

Tom Curran, Liquor Investigator: Southern Rutland County, Rutland Town, Bennington County, Western Windham County, Southern Western Windsor County, tom.curran@state.vt.us, 802-362-6024

No half truth or mis-statement outright lie, if this question was asked under oath whomever answered it would be going to jail. Maybe they'll get t the cell next to Marion Jones. Contrary to what some people think people go to jail for perjury, just not Bill Clinton.
KillingtonRep wrote:We wanted to get this information out as soon as possible after confirming the details with the State of Vermont Division of Liquor Control, so thanks to Bubba for asking the question!

Q: 1. What is the BYOB policy and how will it be enforced, and by whom?

A: Due to State of Vermont Liquor Laws governing alcoholic beverages in pubic places, specifically related to prohibited acts, Bear Mountain Mogul Challenge spectators and competitors will not be allowed to bring alcoholic beverages to the event, including the parking areas of Killington Resort. Law enforcement officials from the Rutland County Sheriffs Department, Vermont State Police and Vermont State Liquor Control Board will be enforcing compliance and checking spectator’s bags and coolers at the entrances to the Bear Mountain venue.

I LOVE the new "Ask Killington" forum. Civil questions. Civil answers. No extraneous chatter or insults. And the best part?

The same old lying, misleading crap. Call the responder "Killington Rep", "spinmaster", or "cmfrvt"... it's the same old nonsense.

Although... I sense an "out", here. Technically, "Killington Rep" responded as follows:
spinmaster -- uh, I mean 'Killington Rep' -- wrote:A: Due to State of Vermont Liquor Laws governing alcoholic beverages in pubic places, specifically related to prohibited acts, Bear Mountain Mogul Challenge spectators and competitors will not be allowed to bring alcoholic beverages to the event, including the parking areas of Killington Resort. The fact that this has been going on for 27 years and theres never been a ban is the issue here. This is a Killington tradition and these dick sucking fukkers are trampling all over it...same sh*t they have been doing since these asswipes from Utah first set foot in Killington..PACK YOUR sh*t AND GO BACK TO UTAH

Sounds like someone needs to email them back and clairify if "slopeside parties" means BYOB is allowed.

Oh, and by all means, it's probably good to have them patroling (just like in years past), to make sure things don't get out of hand....
