Skippy, you don't get it. Killington HAD a great reputation, one of
the best in the business. Now their reputation sucks, badly.
They are closing a mountain with tons of snow on it.
And - They are closing it the day before Spring break for NY, NJ and many other states!!
All the businesses will suffer. No one benefits.
Heck the town won't even let them build an outhouse now!

They had a reputation for being severly overcrowded, skied off in an hour, and not making any upgrades, or even doing maintenence on things falling apart. They had a reputation for not running important lifts, and for overgrooming the mountain.RedRider wrote:Skippy, you don't get it. Killington HAD a great reputation, one of

This is what the reputation has become of the last several years.
How the hell do you know how much snow will be left on the mountain 2 weeks from now?
K is not a charity, they shouldn't stay open, losing money, to help others.

Did anyone actually talk, meet this person? I cannot believe a 19 y/o THINKS he knows this much. Great snow on the mountain, thanks to POWDR, but it may be gone tomorrow. On and On. Just stfu, PLEASE! After your inspection training, go back to school and learn something, like business.skiingsnow wrote:They had a reputation for being severly overcrowded, skied off in an hour, and not making any upgrades, or even doing maintenence on things falling apart. Killington has been closing before the snow melts for several years now. And thats with their great reputation for late season skiing, and them being the only mountain doing it, and they still closed before the snow melted. If they were making money doing it, they woulda kept staying open as late as possible.Coydog wrote:Are you saying if management was clever enough to figure out how to make money by extending this year's shortend season (when compared to all but one previous seasons), they should remain open?skiingsnow wrote: K is not a charity, they shouldn't stay open, losing money, to help others.
This season, they set up all this stuff, and I think they are already straining themselves getting enough help to stay open 1 week longer, with 3 lifts.
Now they know, and they wont have such solid schedules set up, where they cant open stuff sooner or stay open later (which they have still managed to do anyway)
People are nutz if they think 1 lift only needs 3 lifties, and then like 2-3 other people running the whole resort!
With cheap ol' powdr, every lift appears to have 4-5 lifties, and usually a ticket checker. Then you need the mechanic, 1 ski patrol, 2 customer service people, janitor, 2 people to sell snacks/drinks, and idealy a bartender, 2 people selling bbq food on deck.
Thats 15 people minimum. . .
So anyway, yeah, i think the season should run later, To May 1 every year!! Thats what I want. But if they break the May 1 fun slalom now, after so many years, no point in staying open to May after this season... April 20-25, depending when the weekends line up, should be the closing date. . .

I am not a jerk. People on here are jerks to me, and I am being a bit jerky back as of late...
Perhaps, I should meet each and every zoner, that likes to call me Skippy, or thinks that I am a jerk, and explain some things, and just chat. I'm a normal ol' kid, and I certainly am not mean spirited... I am very nice to everyone out there, I have no enemys in real life...
Me thinking they shouldn't have a later season, doesn't mean I dont want them to have one. Because I think no byob at bmmc was the right thing, the proper thing, and etc, doesn't mean I liked it, and wanted it to be that way.

Ok, let’s stipulate that 15 people are required to run the resort in our limited extended season mode.skiingsnow wrote: People are nutz if they think 1 lift only needs 3 lifties, and then like 2-3 other people running the whole resort!

Thats 15 people minimum. . .
Say on average we pay these 15 employees $20/hr for 10 hours a day.
15 * $20/hr * 10hr = $3,000 / day
Let’s assume we incur another $3,000/day in additional non-payroll costs to run the lift(s), computers, electric bill, whatnot. This figure does not include fix costs already paid for.
So we have:
Payroll + Other Costs = $3,000/day + $3,000/day = $6,000/day
If we want to stay open for 15 more days (from the April 20th closing date) til May 5th, our costs are:
$6,000/day * 15 days = $90,000
Let’s kick in a $10,000 bonus for the daily photographer:
$90,000 + $10,000 = $100,000 to remain open til May 5.
Further, let’s assume we do not sell any day tickets during these two weeks, i.e. we do not recover any of this cost in goods sold. We are left with a $100,000 bill to stay open til May 5th.
Now I’m certain this analysis is quite simplistic – perhaps someone knowledgeable can provide a more detailed and accurate accounting.
But, I wonder just how many current customers and potential customers would prefer that instead of spending $8.4 million in the off-season, Powdr spend $8.3 million and stay open til May 5th?
