Looks like you got a whole lot o' nothing there, Skippy... second- and third-hand references from other posters, undocumented "verbal" promises, offhand mentions of ghost percentages made by posters who, oops, never actually made them... nothing.

"Stressing quality over quantity" and "reducing peak crowding" is far different than what you claimed (and have been claiming all year): that Powdr specifically, deliberately planned to reduce skier visits significantly.

And I'm still waiting to hear how Killington "beat" all of the other ski areas in the East this season.

C'mon, JG, Killington beat all the other mountains in Vermont by having the most skiable acres and the largest snowmaking system. POWDR really doesn't have to do anything to beat everyone else.

Ive already explained to you, I can not find it. Its here or rutland herald somewhere, you are just as capable of finding it as I am. I posted several other zoners also saying, yes, this is what they said.

No, Skippy. In the middle of another free-flowing, over-the-top, non-reality-based Powdr-lovin' stream of SkippyConsciousness, you made something up, got caught making the evidence to justify yet another inane SkippySnow statement, and then asked everyone else to justify your own words.

Hopeless. Absolutely hopeless... and completely untrustworthy, which is a new addition to your rabid pro-Powdr posting oeuvre.

P.S. By the way, Powdr made it very clear that they will no longer accept businesses from short people, Jews, and women. It's a fact! I saw it! I don't remember where -- I can't find it right now -- but I assure you, it's here or in the Rutland Herald somewhere. Since you are just as capable of finding it as I am, I am sure I'll be proved correct... any minute now.

So how did Killington "beat" all the other ski areas in the East this season?

I did not "make something up". Several other zoners have said, Powdr said this. You don’t have to just take my word for it, there’s several other people who have said the same. Powdr looked to reduce traffic, to provide a higher quality experience. I already said, you probably wont find them having said, "Significantly".

That's a rather polite way of calling SkippySnow a liar. :beat

As we've discussed here many times, Skippy just doesn't have enough history at Killington to understand what was once possible before the ASC malaise years. For my first 15 years at Killington, something major happened virtually every year that created a huge buzz about the resort. New terrain. New lifts. Additions to lodges. It never stopped. The rythm of the place was deeply entrenched. They always blew a patch on upper Cascade in September or early October for a photo op that put Killington in the news. Killington opening day in October created more buzz and was fill for every flatland weather dude every year. The spring was an endless party with BMMC, house races, May 1 slalom, the triathalon, the June 1 slalom. The share houses also had huge parties every weekend. Gone. Dead. Killed by some bean counters with no soul. Skippy is defending them because he knows nothing better.

I actually used to never understand the people who would speak of the good old days and totally ignore the pure business facts about running a ski resort. Now that the Killington Ski Resort is owned by POWDR, I understand the folks who always spoke of the good old days.

Lets bring back the good ole days of Killington Resort.

reason i made the move was that the place seemed to be run by a bunch of ski freaks like myself. the longer season was a huge part of it. i remember all the bumpers rippin' it on downdraft, cascade & later superstar in may. it was like one big party. there really was a buzz and energy to the place that geoff speaks of.

now instead of it being a place i'm excited about, i feel more like it's a place i'm sentenced to ...

Unfortunately, those days are gone and never coming back. K will never go back to the way it was no matter who owns the place. Another owner might not be nearly as bad as these guys, but I wouldn't anticipate Oct openings and mid/late May closings anymore. Best case would be early May closing and mid Nov opening...

I'm not so certain. With a village, skiing through May might make even more economic sense than in the past.

Agreed wholeheartedly.

unfortunately, Killington Resort management decisions are driven by these guys:

They still open the lodges, run the lifts, and so on, all costs the same, they could cram the slopes with more people, and get pure profit. They set out to do the opposite, for higher customer satisfaction. Then they turned around and put the profits into the resort.
I could be wrong, but if Powdr measures success by customer satisfaction, I think they'll be in for a rude awaking next season.
That's a bunch of crap. The typical midwinter weekend and holiday day ticket skier was treated just fine this year. The majority of the season pass base that doesn't ski October or May and only skis weekends and holidays is just fine.

They didn't spin the lifts when they could have. That sucks and a bunch of us don't like it. That's not going to affect the typical day ticket skier or most of the season pass base who are off doing other things at this time of year.

Skippy F'ing Snow, out
Sure it will - "they shortened the season, closed the lifts and increased prices. Skier visits are way down at Killington". That will be the perception to those mid-winter day ticket folks. Doesn't sound too appealing when you need to spend $80 bucks plus gas.

If they didn't speak with a British or Canadian accent, most of the customers I spoke to were not particularly impressed with K this year - pass holders or day tickets. Not overly negative, but not glowingly positive either.

Maybe a few who were satisfied could post their comments here.
OK. Let me ask a different question...

How many people do you run into who, when Killington comes up, say, "I haven't been there in years other than for October and May skiing. That place is a zoo." People who ski farther north in Vermont are pretty much united in that opinion. Much of the Boston market says the same thing and now goes to Sunday River. I'll bet a lot of the Connecticut market that now goes to Okemo says it.

In early ski season days the slopes were packed with us!
