Killington's "Snow Camp"
I was just reading about this 'new' program.
http://www.killington.com/winter/plan/l ... index.html
Kids age 6 through 12. Minimum requirement is the be able to ride a lift. 16 Saturdays from 8:30 until 11:30. $749.00 if you buy before July 1st.
That's $46.82 for a 3-hour session. I presume they get their coaches from weekend warrior volunteers, give them a comp season pass, and pay them $10.00/hour. That's nuts for a program that should be run at break-even pricing to get kids hooked on the sport unless the group size is held to 2 or 3 kids. You cover your costs with one kid per coach.
The 1-day Hopefuls Program is the same price but that meets 22 days and it's a 6 hour day rather than a 3 hour day. That's a little better value but it's still really expensive given what you'd expect Killington would have for a cost structure for the program.

I'm trying to figure out where this program fits in, and the best I can figure is that the hopefuls is usually just for young-uns (maybe 7 and under) but this one goes up to 16...

dork you'd know better than i, but it almost seems like they're offering a more expensive version of some of the programs at the ksc.SkiDork wrote:I'm trying to figure out where this program fits in, and the best I can figure is that the hopefuls is usually just for young-uns (maybe 7 and under) but this one goes up to 16...

Re: Killington's "Snow Camp"
Yes, it would be more expensive (like Geoff said). I'm also stumped as to the added value, or the niche its trying to fill...skiadikt wrote:dork you'd know better than i, but it almost seems like they're offering a more expensive version of some of the programs at the ksc.SkiDork wrote:I'm trying to figure out where this program fits in, and the best I can figure is that the hopefuls is usually just for young-uns (maybe 7 and under) but this one goes up to 16...

Re: Killington's "Snow Camp"
Could it be a replacement for the season pass that was eliminated prior to last season?

Nope. The season pass allowed unlimited use of Friendly Penguin/First Tracks/Ministars (and maybe even SUperstars, we never went that far). This is just 16 half day sessions.Bubba wrote:Could it be a replacement for the season pass that was eliminated prior to last season?

Well, if you assume the season pass was eliminated because it allowed unlimited use of the programs at a fixed price, thus causing overcrowding of classes on some days, wouldn't this be a step toward a discounted season-long program but with a limit on the number of days? I know it's not the full replacement but maybe a step to meet the need half-way? I don't know enough about kid's programs to say - just asking.

Re: Killington's "Snow Camp"
Its actually a step backwards (as Geoff implied in the original post) because its less days than the hopefuls program for the same price (plus half day instead of full day). Thats the basis for the confusion - this sort of program is already being offered in a better package for the same price.Bubba wrote:SkiDork wrote:Nope. You could say that about all of POWDR's decisions here at Killington.SkiDork wrote: Yes, it would be more expensive (like Geoff said). I'm also stumped as to the added value, or the niche its trying to fill...

Re: Killington's "Snow Camp"
my impression is this program is for "recreational" (beginner) skiers. being able to ride a chairlift is the only prerequiste. the 6 yo+ hopefuls must be intermediate or above. seems to be a compromise of the defunct season passes, heck it's a step in the right direction.
the 2 day hopefuls is also a new program, but Griffin will be entering the 2 day Devo this winter. another nice option though.

Re: Killington's "Snow Camp"
B - I could be wrong, but I believe the 2 day hopefuls was available last year (for the extra cost, of course)whiteout wrote:my impression is this program is for "recreational" (beginner) skiers. being able to ride a chairlift is the only prerequiste. the 6 yo+ hopefuls must be intermediate or above. seems to be a compromise of the defunct season passes, heck it's a step in the right direction.

Yea! It sounds like a replacement for the free "learn to ski" coupon you used to be able to get.whiteout wrote:my impression is this program is for "recreational" (beginner) skiers. being able to ride a chairlift is the only prerequiste.

Why would you put a never never on a lift anyway, unless you want to kill them or something.
Of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind the most.

Re: Killington's "Snow Camp"
How about a Kzone ski camp. Barnibus and his GF are both experienced instructors(5 years) and will not be teaching this year back in western Mass. Both will be at Killington 4 day weekends. She specializes 3 - 10 year old skiers and he adults snowboarders. Cutting out the middleman will drop price down significantly. Both are sophmores in college and will need gas money this winter and expressed interest in teaching.

Re: Killington's "Snow Camp"
It seems that the question would be a good one for Ask Killington.
By the way, what happened to the Hopeful Program for 5 yr olds?
It seems that POWDR has cut another family friendly program. It seems that they don't realize that 4 and 5 year olds can be every weekend skiers. I guess since they pay only $30 for their pass, they can't give them a seasonal program.

Re: Killington's "Snow Camp"
There was a 5 y/o hopeful program last year - there's none this year?
