Junior Passes Compared to College Passes
How can Powdr seriously expect families with children to pay for a 6, 7, or 8 year old $779 for a season pass when Mom & Dad each pay $1,000 for their passes, when a college student pays $329? Seems to me if MOM & Dad buy passes a 6 year old should be able to get a pass for $329 too. Certainly no more than $399 to $449 for a kid. Sure college students with $329 Passes spend money on drinks , but hey families with 6 year olds , also buy ski lessons to increase yield and clothing.
Re: Junior Passes Compared to College Passes
. . . and, those kids buy a $3.25 bottle of Gatorade along with their gazillion dollar meal!!!
Re: Junior Passes Compared to College Passes
I think we paid $699 by purchasing before 8/1 or something...

Hopefully mom and dad will send there children to college, then no worries and they'll get the deal. If not, geez idk. Basically, kton respects the fact that tuition is $5,000 to $40,000 a semester.

Count me as another one that doesn't get why you offer college kids cheap passes vs little guys
no disrespect to the college age set at all, but you're not "high margin" customers(at least I wasn't in college) To me it'd make more sense to offer a discounted junior pass since that comes attached to mommy and daddies wallets. It doesn't have to be much, but I personally think $699 for a blackout pass for a 6 year old is kind of ridiculous.

Re: Junior Passes Compared to College Passes
I'm guessing they assume juniors are still attached to moms and dads wallets while college students are probably purchasing passes on their own... Mom and dad will fork it over, but the college kid may have to choose between ramen noodles and a ski pass. They probably lose the college kids with high prices, but mom and dad bend over and submit.laseranimal wrote:Count me as another one that doesn't get why you offer college kids cheap passes vs little guys

Re: Junior Passes Compared to College Passes
Is this the pricing just at Killington and/or Powdr ski areas or is this an industry wide question? How do other ski areas price college passes vs. junior passes?

Re: Junior Passes Compared to College Passes
Sunday River 6-12 $649
Sugarloaf 6-12 $799 (OUCH)
Wildcat 6-12 $399 They also have a Teen Pass
Attitash 6-12 $629
Loon 6-12 $649
Mt. Snow 6-12 $849 Includes other areas owned or operated by Peaks
Sugarbush Youth $419
Jay Peak 6-17 $349 Now that is a BARGAIN if you can get up there. (family pass, 1 adult and 1 junior for $599)
P-Okemo-N 7-12 $849 (OUCH that really hurts)
Looks like Killington is in line with all the other children passes in our area. Feel bad for the parents that want to ski and have their kids ski too. Also feel bad for my Grandkids because there ain't no way we can dish out that for 2 kids to ski each year.

I mean I understand why local areas like Jiminy and West charge for little kids day tickets vs kids ski free at places like Sugarbush and Killington, but the pass thing makes NO sense at all
like Geoff said, what kind of heroin dealers are these guys?

Re: Junior Passes Compared to College Passes
As of last year, my three grandkids will not be Killington regulars. Instead, they will learn to ski on the local hills that have value pricing. Will they become Killington regulars? Only time will tell but they certainly wont be building loyalty to Killington in the process.

Youth and College are the same price at Sugarbush. $219 at Mount Ellen and $319 for All-Mountain. Just FYI!
