Re: Opening weekend
One of the things for the new lift to get approved was having ample parking spots at bear for the uphill capacity. Some bro who said the lift would never get approved by the town told me this last April. I think they might of had to remove the DFQ to meet this criteria?

Dont think so, K had many more (hundreds I believe) parking spaces than the required amount.Gangsta Rider wrote:One of the things for the new lift to get approved was having ample parking spots at bear for the uphill capacity. Right...Stormchaser wrote:Pic looks like the parking lot is at about 40% of capacity.
By historical standards, Bear was empty last winter.

Re: Opening weekend
I can understand the local businesses wanting a zoo on weekends because they mostly ski/ride midweek, but for the weekend warriors it would suck to have 1 Mil+ on weekends. I like to add a weekday or 2 every trip to get a taste of what the locals get!johnny the jibber wrote:the more skiers on the mountain is better for everyone around here. i like it slow when im on the hill, but theres much to it than that...

Current levels are a good balance, I think...
Re: Opening weekend
Last season we drove to BMMC and we parked almost near East Mountain Road. This past season we drove exactly the same time around 1 and we found a space 4 rows back in the lot, there were plenty of spaces left and there was nobody parked outside the lot...Geoff wrote:Yeah, that's pathetically empty. The main lot is barely more than half full. The lot on the other side of the pond is empty. You can drive up and get near-slopeside parking. Notice the ironic "King of Spring" sign on the wall of the Bear Bar.johnny the jibber wrote:that is actually really empty, if thats a weekend picture...
I skied over but I'm told you could drive in at noon and still get a parking spot for BMMC. That pretty much means the Bear lot was never 100% full last year.

Thats because POWDR in their infinite wisdom and knowledge of Killingtons culture killed the party which was what BMMC was all about in the first place.

According to Killington, the event is the bump competition, not the party.BoozeTan wrote:Thats because POWDR in their infinite wisdom and knowledge of Killingtons culture killed the party which was what BMMC was all about in the first place.

Which is why they booked the Smithereens and fenced off a "beer garden".BoozeTan wrote:Of course it is. Preston Smith put in BMMC in the first place to market spring skiing. It's kind of pointless when you hold the event in March and announce an April 13th closing date.
