Killington's New Economic Development Director

Post by Bubba »

Great choice for the town's first Economic Development Director. Carl's been here for years as a member of the mountain's management, an employee of Centex when they were going to be the village developer and, most recently, as consultant to SP Land. He's tied in with the community, the resort, the developer, and everyone in Montpelier, and is a person who has everyone's respect and can bring people together to intelligently discuss issues that everyone here faces.

VETERAN VERMONT PLANNING EXECUTIVE HIRED

AS TOWN OF KILLINGTON'S FIRST ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

KILLINGTON-Carl Spangler, a political, planning and recreation industry
executive, has been hired as the Town of Killington's inaugural Economic
Development Director. He was retained following a nation-wide search and
several months of interviews and deliberation, said Killington Town Manager
Kathleen Ramsay in announcing Spangler's appointment today.

"Carl is the right person at the right time to get Killington's economic
initiatives up and running," said Bill Bauer, Chair of the Town of
Killington Economic Development & Tourism Commission (EDT). "His knowledge
of the Killington community, the Rutland region and his contacts in both
make him uniquely qualified for this position. He'll hit the ground
running."

In March, town residents approved the implementation of a one percent local
option tax on retail sales and room and beverage receipts and dedicated the
revenue to the development and support of a year-round sustainable tourism
economy and related economic opportunities for the town. The process of
hiring an Economic Development Director was undertaken by the Select Board,
the Chairperson of the EDT and the Town Manager.

Spangler, 59, of Pittsford has been closely associated with state and local
government and Vermont's recreation industry for more than 30 years. He has
served as Director of the Rutland Regional Planning Commission, a member of
former Gov. Richard A. Snelling's staff and has been a consultant to local
governments on development matters. Most recently, he was senior planner and
development officer for a number of resorts, including Killington-Pico and
Sugarbush.

A graduate of Penn State, Spangler assumes his duties Nov. 3.

I'm shocked, they picked that guy after a Nation Wide Search, could have saved the money, right guy for the right job, things just got a whole lot better.

Congratulations to Carl in the new position, looking forward to see what a guy who knows how to lead can do.ImageImage

The nationwide search didn't have to cost anything.

I've known Carl for years. He's smart, knows his stuff and has tremendous integrity. Good call by the town to hire him.
