Thursday after the ncp . . .

Post by MrsG »

. . . was much better than expected . . . let me tell you, do not forget your pass unless you have someone still at home to bring it . . . or an extra $10 for a day ticket  :dis MrG did bring it for me - what a guy :Toast  (Housemate drove and did not offer to take me home to pick it up . . . and, I did not expect her to . . . I'm with stupid :dis )

Hard to pick ROD, but I would say it was Superstar top to bottom . . . Bittersweet and Skylark were good, but grooming was better at The Glades and some of Snowdon. It really depended on which section of a trail you skied to determine how much chattering you experienced. There really is a lot more snow up there than what I expected after the deluge yesterday . . . but, some natural trails are pretty ugly . . . as mentioned yesterday, the woods do look like they will survive with the current snow . . . it's snowing pretty hard and has been for a couple hours . . . let's hope it continues until everything is resurfaced:)

We checked out the Skypeak Quad - they are still building the ramp . . . and you could hear the guns blasting in the Needles area.

Think snow!!!!

Went out for a couple hours this afternoon. Snow moved around a lot, and some hardpack around, but you could keep an edge fine...

Temps in mid to upper 20's. Snowing steadily after 1, only a dusting of accumulation though...

Snowmaking underway on Great Eastern, Bear Trax, The Stash, Upper Skyeburst, Middle Skyeburst (Viper Pit), Bear Claw (Bear Trap), and more... Couldn't see Midstation, but snowmaking may be underway there too...

Pics in a few.

No pics of any of that...

I can say there is still a reasonable amount of snow on all natural terrain. A few bare areas, nothing super major... I dont see enough snow to groom any of it, but still a base for this storm to build on... Right now its a problem with surface condition, not coverage... This storm may fix both surface and overall coverage....

Powerline was still wall to wall and open today. . . .

Made it out after an early lunch and stayed 'til closing.
I borrowed this year's Volkl Tigershark 10 fts (I figured it would be either those or ice skates for today) and started out from the Vale lot.

After a warm-up on Header I hit East Fall and then Cascade.
Both were a little hard. I slipped on East Fall and slid onto my side, but then it took me a minute to get up because the surface was so slick.
I headed up again and across Blue Heaven->Bear Trax and over to Launch Pad.
The snow started to pick up on the way.

Superstar Top to Bottom definitely ROTD with Skyelark complete being a close second.
Today was my first time seeing the new and gelded Upper Bittersweet.
Lame change, but decent snow.

The Glades were also very nice. I had a lot of fun with short crisp turns there after I started making friends with the Tigersharks.
Those skis need to be run fast and worked, but really come alive in medium-sized power carves and short edge-to-edge turns.

Peeked into a lot of tree areas and wasn't even tempted.
Too much crap showing through and too crunchy a surface on anything not groomed kept me out of the woods, especially on borrowed and brand new skis.
Tonight's refresh should really help out.

Was wondering when you would post your first report. Nice work.

Thanks for noticing.
I've posted a couple of reports this season, but only a couple.
The new job is interfering with my skiing. :-x

If I'm not able to get out, or only get a couple of runs in, I'm unlikely to post unless I have something to say that hasn't been covered.

skiingsnow usually manages to say it all, plus pics.
Between him and MrsG we usually get consistent daily reports.
Last year I was kind of keeping MrsG's place for her while she was off of the hill, so made a point of posting daily.

I think ski was only kidding about the r*in... been snow and sleet down here in Bridgewater, mostly sleet, and on the K1 Cam right now it appears to be snow, sleet, or both...
