Re: Why people don't ski Killington
I think newcomers to Killington can easily get the impression of all three "crowded, rowdy and confusing" and there is probably some validity do that. IMO Killington has a trail layout that somehow puts 75% of the skiers on 25% of the trails, so those trails ALWAYS seem crowded and rowdy. Once you know the mountian, most of us know how to get away from that and you end up having a much better experience.
Don't Killington Pico

Novices and snowboarders don't have that option.Big Bob wrote:You don't have to take your skis off to do this, therefore, no walking, just a little skating.Geoff wrote:I'm at the top of Rams Head. I want to get to KBL or the K1. How do I do that without walking uphill as I approach the Snowdon triple? Every day, countless people do that walk. Sure, you can do a lap on the Snowdon quad but that doesn't help if you are a novice and can't handle Lower Bunny Buster.Big Bob wrote:Geoff, You can get from Rams Head to the KBL with one lift ride.

Re: Why people don't ski Killington
Killington is a lousy place to ski for novices and intermediates, and too often, for anyone who doesn't know the mountain. One of POWDR's biggest mistakes is the attempt to "Okemo-ize" the place. It was built by skiers for skiers. If you know your way around, it is neither crowded nor confusing, and you can always find a good surface somewhere (although today is a bit challenging...). It is easy have a bad experience at any mountain, but that's particularly true here, because of its complexity, multiple elevations, and exposures.

This is exactly what people should do instead of whining about K every F'n minute on KZone.Vinny Vincenzo wrote:Got sick of the same old thing all the time. I've rediscovered New York skiing. Jesus Christ, Whiteface has 3,450 feet of veritical and there's hardly any lines. The place is incredible. It's like you're skiing down from the freaking moon.
I also like going to Okemo, Magic, Belleayre, and even Hunter and all the bus trip places that change each week. Mountains that you haven't been to in a while, or never been to are cool. I don't miss Killington or Mount Snow all that much. I'll get back to the Big K in the next few weeks. Just not every week anymore.

I've been in Colorado for the last week and it's incredible the amount of whining since last weekend. Christ, if you hate the place so much do what Vinny did and check other places. Go somewhere else! If we hated the place as much as some people on KZone do we would sell the condo and move on.
Simple...
Also, do people not realize what a F'N disaster the economy is right now for many many people? I personally know several people that have been layed off or had reduced hours. Everybody I know is worried about their job including myself. Why are so many people surprised that K would be offering reduced ticket prices and deals on lodging? Even in Colorado the lodgings are way down. The place we stayed was empty the whole week including the weekends. We got an awesome deal on the condo. Hotels that were over $120 a night were going for $69 and less. I like that I can get some friends discounts to come up to K. I hope they continue offering them because I will be using them in the next couple months for friends and family.

what's funny about the anti whine crowd is rather then actually FIX what people are whining about they're content to stick their fingers in their ears and shout lalalalala

Re: Why people don't ski Killington
I don't care if beginners have a tough time navigating home from Bear or getting to KBL from Ramshead.
Snowshed is one of the best teaching slopes in the country. Ramshead has superb novice terrain. If beginners want the top of the world Pres Smith experience riding K1 from Ramshead, fine, ride an extra lift. Everything doesn't have to be hand it to you on a plate easy.
Fixing that issue would be way, way down on my priority list, like after the interconnect trail signs need replacing.

Re: Why people don't ski Killington
I couldn't of said it any better. The only other issue is the people who know it are expert skiers who want thier kids to have the same experience. With todays price schedule it isn't going to happen.rogman wrote:Killington is a lousy place to ski for novices and intermediates, and too often, for anyone who doesn't know the mountain. Because I and most people don't have a problem with most of the stuff at K that you and others whine about on KZonelaseranimal wrote:what's funny about the anti whine crowd is rather then actually FIX what people are whining about they're content to stick their fingers in their ears and shout lalalalala

I love snowboarding, but there's more important things in my life. Just blow snow, run the lifts and I'm fine.
-I understand about the kids program prices being too high and should be brought down, but I don't have kids so not much impact. The trail work that was done is mostly fine with me. So the 50 foot long bittersweet headwall is gone. Big deal. Maybe they'll bring it back. Wow, my riding is over without it!

The new lift is great. How can that be a bad thing compared to that POS they had? The burton stash is fine. I don't do much in there anyway except to cruise through. The crowds are down which is fine with me on weekends. Thank god for weekdays. The grooming is ok, but can be improved. Recovery after bad weather isn't great, but it's not bad and can be improved also. Not the end of the world...
Keep the cost of the pass and the weekend crowds around current levels and I'm fine. Also, I don't care about the village. If they build it, fine. If not, don't care. I can live without an 8$ cup of coffee, expensive restaurants and higher property taxes.
You constantly tell us how great Magic is and how much K sucks so why don't you just go to Magic

If I hated Killington as much as you and others do I would be gone. There's many other places to go. I wouldn't constantly complain about it. I doubt anybody that complains in KZone actually contacts anybody in charge at Killington to complain. It's very easy to get phone #'s and email addresses. Has anybody actually ever gone up to Nyberg or Horrocks in person? I've seen them many times. Not hard to find them.
Re: Why people don't ski Killington
Me neither. They shouldn't be there anyway. Maybe they should read the signs that say ADVANCED/INTERMEDIATE skiers/riders only at BEAR when they get off the lifts and head in the opposite direction...Mister Moose wrote:I don't care if beginners have a tough time navigating home from Bear.

Re: Why people don't ski Killington
This is the "why people don't ski Killington" thread, as in why OTHER people you know or read on other message boards say they don't ski Killington. It's not the "novices can ski elsewhere" thread or the usual "rip into other people for their opinions" thread.
