Oh and I forgot to add that you know pm gear stands behind EVERY pair of bros that goes out EVEN their blems
Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.

Why isn't anyone recommending big burly Nordicas or Volkls??
I'm surprised at this..
I was going to suggest the Volkl AC50. Fred Coriell of Peak Performance has been skiing on them this year. When I was in Lake Tahoe last week, I rode the lift with a guy who was skiing with them, and he loved them. He found them to be decent in all the powder (even though they are a heavy ski). Peak has them on the demo rack and I am sure you would be able to pick up a pair of used demos either at the end of the year or next fall at the Ski Swap.
The reviews on Epic Ski (barking bear forums) have been pretty positive.

Agreed. They originally sent me a craptastic pair that fell apart everytime I went out (bad epoxy). I sent them a pic and was immediately guaranteed a new set to be sent out. I've toured and skied in bounds with the new Bros on many occasions, have you seen the smile on my face?!?!?!sLoPeS wrote:FKNA!laseranimal wrote:Oh and I forgot to add that you know pm gear stands behind EVERY pair of bros that goes out EVEN their blems
I still have the craptastic pair for rocker skis now

Re: Gotta get some new boards
I'd have to agree with Geoff about the K2s. I have a pair of Apache Recons and I'm really satisfied with their overall performance at Killington. I feel like they provide the flexibility to ski all the conditions that Killington has from powder to hockey rink. I'd highly recommend them as a good all mountain ski.

are the K2's something a big guy can pound the crap out of and not worry about breakage?
Re: Gotta get some new boards
I'd vote for the burly Volkls. I picked up a pair of last year's AC30s for $350 (retailed anywhere from $950-1150 new). Search Craigslist, but not just your local Craigslist. I scoured the Colorado and Utah sites. I found these from a shop in Utah looking to unload them and willing to ship. they're a very heavy ski, but I like the stiffness. Best ski I've owned to date for all mountain skiing. Good luck.

Re: Gotta get some new boards
The Apache Recons have held up pretty well on 23 days this year and I try to beat on them pretty good. I'd say I ski pretty much everything at K and I'd probably categorize myself into the "big guy" category. I'm about 6'1'' 220 and the 173cm seem to work pretty well as an all mountain ski for me. I'd definitely try and demo the Recons or the Explorers though. I think the 2009 177cm Recons are probably the most comparable.SkiDork wrote:are the K2's something a big guy can pound the crap out of and not worry about breakage?

Re: Gotta get some new boards
Dork...i know that there are going to be a lot more choices coming out next year as far a rockered skis, little fatter with more tradional camber in a twin tip. an old twin tip with a squared tail(ie no more twin tip) for more power out of the turn. I have skied the old volkl 724 and swithced to a nordica jet fuel 84 under foot for everyday ice ski. The jet fuel was a touch less stiff but a better turn radius, allowed for more turn size and shape b/c of the construction of the ski. Yes I beat on them a lot. I also have a pair of 05/06 seth vicous that I LOVE. they are an everyday ski b/c of the tradiotnal camber and even at 98 they do not feel bulky b/c of there shape. They float/rail/wash/ etc. This is a ski i ride more than not. If you are going to keep the rc4 for an ice day and you have the ships you may sell
then looking into a 95-105 twin tip would allow you a lot of versatility. soft ealry morning cord gets ripped/ 1-30" of pow gets ripped and chewed up crud gets eaten alive and ice, well just jump over it!!! Next Year will be the year for the KID IN THE CANDY STORE

Re: Gotta get some new boards
El Droko, you love your Fisher SL skis? If you can, try some all mountain Fiser skis. people love the SX 9? or 8. I have run the Big Stix and Pure Heat for the last 5 years and do everything in them. 16 Meter radius and lots of stability, plus beafy to help a big guy like yourself. I would say the Pure Heat at 186 would be great for an all mountain ski. Only problem I have is in the bumps as they don't like being side by side, but I can handle it. They don't tend to sub in POW and work great on flats and steeps and ice. You know the FISHER edge is the best already. I run the 165, I think, 176 on race skis. You might want to talk to your shop about them as they are a great ski

+1 on the AC50s. I demo a lot of skis and they are definitely my ski of the year for this season.
Wide bindings rule! They make fat skis fun on hardpack.
Good in moderate powder, good in chop, good on the hard stuff.
Fairly willing in trees, but not a tight turner.
Too strong, stiff and fat to be great in the bumps, but I enjoyed them on Great Bear nonetheless.
