They have access to the best there is. You come to K. to ski, that's it. Face it.
There are the retirees from Florida who venture up to VT to escape the heat and they do play golf. I do believe, however, that because of the economy there will be less of them this year.

Sounds like they need some year-round skiing. Where have I heard of that concept before?

That's ridiculous! I've never had problems golfing up there or biking or hiking. I also like the fact that it's pretty quiet in the summer. It's also not completely filled with old people. Just because your property is rented by old people doesn't mean Vermont becomes a Geriatric state in the summer! Most of the people that own or rent in our complex in the summer are young (20's - 40's) and come up year round...

There are quite a few Q-tips in Crown Vics going 25 mph up and down the access road in the summer. Midweek, they outnumber the mountain bikers.

As all the other ski resort manager wannabes who post here, you don't have a clue. Check out Stowe, Smuggs and Sugarbush during the summer and you will see lots of visitors. The wedding business alone brings in thousands of people to Vermont during the summer. There is no reason why kmart can't do the same. I bet you have never been to Vermont during a summer weekend, yet your an expert.

In addition it sounds like your unaware of a little thing we have up here in Vermont called foliage season. Matter of fact, the wife and I the last 5 years have spent a weekend in early October at kmart staying at the Happy Bear. We meet lots of folks from the NY area escaping the rat race. It's a great time.

Commenting on what the folks who live in the town of Killington want to do is just as pathetic as someone from Vermont commenting on how things should be run in your town in Jersey, NY...wherever. If you want a voice in how things are run in Killington than move there and become involved.

Kmart, if that means Killington, already does a ton of weddings. If I'm missing something please let me know. If you mean the town then that's a different story, they can't get out of their own way.

Well... you're sort of correct. It is true that lots of people get married in Vermont, and it's also true that Vermont sees far more visitors in the summer and fall than in the winter. It doesn't necessarily follow that summer visitors are here because of the ski resorts.

Stowe does nice summer business because of the village of Stowe, not the resort. Ditto with Sugarbush and the Mad River Valley. And Smuggs is an entirely different creature with a long-standing well-established set of year-round family programs.

Killington, on the other hand, is saddled with a charmless Access Road and a hidden, practically non-existent town. Powdr can barely keep the place staffed adequately during the winter, let alone create a labor-intensive summer staff for new summer activities, a la Smuggs.

When skiers come up in the winter, they want to ski (or, if they're at Stratton, shop). Summer visitors tend not to be so single-mindedly focused on any one activity during the warmer months. So why would they want to tool around Killington and the access road in the summer when it looks like a giant semi-abandoned strip mall?

Gosh, if only they'd build a shiny new village, they'd solve all of their problems! I'm surprised no one's thought of that yet...

That's the season that originally brought us to Vermont for the first time back in '92. We've returned there every year since; now all year round to enjoy all the seasons. It's a much more outdoor-friendly place than where we are in central Jersey.
