I have family outside of Boston, they now live in Newton, MA...trust me there is nothing cheap about their clothing. Their friends are very similar...it is sick..I could live for a few years on what my Aunt spends on clothing in probably 6 months.

The traditional frugal New England Yankee lives in a rural place and has been there for many generations. Newton is a Boston inner suburb. Like most affluent inner suburbs, very few of the residents were born there. They have the anywhere-USA consumer culture. No different from, say, lower Fairfield County. You don't see many frugal Yankees there, either. Northern New England, western Mass, and the more rural parts of Connecticut are stuffed full of them. For the most part, their wealth is in the land they've owned for many generations. Few have big city 6 figure office jobs. The smarter and more motivated ones are the local professionals or own the local businesses.

Mrs G was commenting about 'frugal Yankees'. Appropriate for somebody who lives on the Connecticut River in Massachusetts. It doesn't make any sense to use somebody from Newton as a counter-example. Thus my Mayflower line.

The advance tickets for my ski club just came out. Okemo is $54, Sugarbush is $53, Mt Snow is $50, Stratton is $49. (You must join a club, and the deadline is October 7th to purchase tickets) Ascutney at $37 and Magic at $35 round out the Vermont offerings.

The $50 K50 is lower than some ski club rates, but the ski club tickets have no blackout dates like the K50 has. It will be interesting to see what if any ski club program Killington does this year.

The K50 is a good deal (even with some black out dates) when compared to the coming season's CSC bulk ticket prices. The bulk ticket prices for Ascutney and Magic seem really high when the lack of snow making at each mountain is considered.

Thanks for posting the CSC prices, my club hasn't shared this news yet.
