Juggernut Ski Bridge

Post by biged »

Why did the old ski bridge on the access road to Sunrise get removed? Don't think it got used or the trail got groomed in the last couple of years.

From the Sunrise Newsletter...

Ski Bridges
Don’t be surprised when you enter our community and notice that the first ski bridge after the Bear Mountain parking lot is gone. Unfortunately, this bridge was damaged by construction activity of the last few years. Killington deemed it unsafe and not repairable so it has been removed. The second ski bridge within our community has also suffered damage but not as severe and the directors have elected to keep the bridge in place and assume responsibility for any needed maintenance work.

You have to walk a little further now to get to lower Juggernaut, but I don't think they maintained the access to the bridge anyway. You'd have had to climb up over the snow plow piles. Easier to walk through the Bear gate and walk across the street anyway. The other bridge is really the proverbial bridge to nowhere. Use to go around the mountain, down to the base of NE passage, now it just stops after crossing the bridge. If you look with your minds eye at last years trail map, you can see the route it use to take. As it is, it's an uphill climb over to the current base of the Sunrise lift.
