Death today
The ambulance rolled up the access around noon or so. I have no details. Just a second hand account.
The day started out as serene and empty. By afternoon it was mayhem.

Re: Death today
saw at least 4 ski patrol folks working on someone on cascade - just near the split with escapade. didn't look good. We were riding the gondola at the time - didn't ski by. Very sad if it was indeed a death (sad anyway if someone was hurt that badly...).

Sad to hear about another incident like this. Thoughts and prayers go out to the family of this individual.

But it's also pretty amazing that the paper of record, the Rutland Herald, almost never mentions these news items.
Beware of fools & trolls here, they lurk everywhere.
Re: Death today
Was indeed a fatality. Teenage snowboarder. When I passed above him on the gondola it must have been seconds after it happened. Face down right at the tril sign at the split on lower cascade, with nobody near him. By the time I made it down to Cascadde there was one ambassador and one ski school instructor on scene and they were waiting for patrol.
I heard today that it was a chest impact. Very sad news. and especially tragic on Christmas Eve.

A 20-year-old man from Cheshire, Conn., died after he was found unconscious on an expert trail at Killington Resort in the middle of the day Thursday, according to the resort.
According to an e-mail sent Sunday from Tom Horrocks, the resort's communications manager, the man "died following a snowboard accident."
"Killington Ski Patrol responded to reports of an unconscious person on Cascade Trail at approximately 12 p.m., brought him down the mountain, then transferred the man to Regional Ambulance Service," according to the e-mail, with information Horrocks said he received from the resort's risk manager.
"Regional Ambulance transported the man to Rutland Regional Medical Center."
In a phone interview Sunday, Horrocks said ski patrol performed CPR on the man before he was taken to the hospital.
Horrocks said he did not know if the man was alive or dead when he was found on the trail by rescuers.
Rutland hospital spokesman Joe Stuhlmueller declined to provide information on the unnamed man's condition upon arrival, citing lack of identification, and patient privacy laws.
In the e-mail, Chris Nyberg, Killington's president and general manager, was quoted as saying, "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and all those affected by this tragic incident."
Horrocks said he did not know how the snowboarder died but confirmed that police were investigating.
The man did not fall from a chair and he was wearing a helmet, Horrocks wrote in e-mails late Sunday.
All other inquiries were referred to the Vermont State Police.
Vermont State Police Lt. Tim Oliver, head of the Rutland Bureau of Criminal Investigations, did not have any information available on the incident Sunday afternoon.

I could not imagine the heartbreak of losing a child, but this interview made it obvious that this was a loving family and that these parents are going to celebrate their son's life going forward. What a beautiful story to come out of such a tragedy. My heart goes out to them.
Re: Death today
wow - what a fine young man and family. Terrible tragedy. God bless them.
