BTW, I delivered from Competative Edge in Holyoke, MA. The take good care of the faithful. Council or club members always get a good discount. The guy I delivered for is from Atlantic City area and drives up I-91 to stop at this shop. Give em the business.

The owner of Forerunner shop was skiing the Fisher Watea today. Of course, he has many different types of skis that he can ski. He told me that he has to tests different types in order to be able to speak about the pros and cons to his customers about the different skiis.Rambo wrote:These are the All-Mountain skiis I have demoed and really like:
Fischer Watea 84
K2 Xplorer
Elan 888
Atomic Crimson Ti
Salomon Fury

+1 - to Bubba you should listen.Bubba wrote:Demo, demo, demo...
The best all mountain ski is the all mountain ski that works best for you.
I do a lot of demoing and these are my (and your experience may differ) top three so far this year depending on how much float you're looking for:
Nordica Hot Rod Nitrous CA (mid-slim for an all-mountain ski with a 78mm waist) quick and fun, but not squishy
Volkl AC50 (medium waisted 85mm) a powerful all around ski
Volkl Mantra (chubbier 96mm waist) Not for ice, but anywhere else it's gold
Try a few different skis for yourself and be sure to tell the shop tech what you liked and what you didn't about each.
That will help him hone his recommendations to help you find your ski out of the giant haystack.
Most shops will subtract demo fees from the cost of the skis you eventually purchase.

Great, great advice. The best thing I ever did was demo after a bad buying experience. (The bad experience was my own fault.) DEMO!!Legion wrote:+1 - to Bubba you should listen.Bubba wrote:Demo, demo, demo...

Re: Best all mountain skiis...
I love my Nordica Hot Rod Jet Fuel skis. I don't see this model being skied a lot in the east, but I can't believe how good an all-around ski it is! They're amazing! I definitely recommend demo'ing a pair. Prior to buying these Nordica skis last season, I was skiing on Volkl Vertigo G3's. They were an early Vertigo model and they were great for their time, but the newer and fatter skis have eclipsed those thinner Vertigos big time. I'm not sure what the new Vertigos are like, or even if they're made at all any more. I have always liked Volkl skis, and I've had a number of different ones throughout the years. I agree with Bubba's advice... demo different models and see what works for you. Good luck!

Tell your wife to demo some Salomon Origins Opals. I had Burnin' Luvs and tried some Salomon Origins. I replaced the Burnin' Luvs with the Salomons. I love these skis.tt431 wrote:Wife currently has some k2's and she is ready to renew, Burnin' luvs might be something she would like, I'll let her know.MarieM wrote:Throwin' in my vote for those. My husband loves his. Have heard they're a bit of an old-man's ski, but that's okay by him. I love my K2's too...Burnin' Luvs.Apres Ski Allstar wrote:I've also got the Apache Recon.
