I followed ShortSki's link to the Pico pass announcement. If you didn't know anything (which I can say I usually qualify for ) you wouldn't know Pico and Killington are owned by the same company. I don't understand the strategy.
The site has a completely different look and feel, and no links that I could find to the Killington site. It seems like an afterthought, or an orphan left to its own. How does this fit into the overall strategy or vision of the company? Why don't they say something like "Buy a ticket and ski Pico in the morning, then visit our big sister in the afternoon for free with your Pico ticket for a day of fun, variety and adventure."
Where is the vision of where this mountain is going and how it fits together with Killington?
Maybe there is none, and I'm not asking the right questions.

You can't ski Killington with a Pico lift ticket.
Also, to me it would seem that seperating the lift and trail count for the two ski areas and no mention on either website of the other, makes it seem like they are two entirely seperate ski areas. They are. This would also make it a mucher bigger deal when these two seperate ski areas are connected with a lift and trails.
It is a new strategy this year, and seeming it is working - visits are way up.
I'll also take some credit, as we pushed a good number of ski house people over there during the the Christmas holiday, and the trend has stuck with them.

They even tell you up front you will be charged the going rate of the express pass if you ski Pico in the a.m and K in the afternoon and/ or visa versa. So with an express pass you have to stay at one or the other all day,

So you'll be charged twice, once at K and one at Pico, in the same day?

I could understand being charged the difference if you ski Killington after Pico on the the same day. What happens if you ski Killington first and then go to Pico? If anything, it might be a system limitation.

Right, but that's not what he's saying. He's saying you'd be charged the going rate at EACH resort. Maybe the 2 scanning systems aren't tied in to eachother.

It was announced last fall that the only thing at Pico with a K logo would be a snowplow in the p-lot.
Branding???
Pico = Small mountain charm with BIG mountain Vertical.
Killington ticket good at K and Pico. Pico ticket good at Pico. Always has and probably always will be. K Pass OK at Pico ( unless they change the rules ). Pico Pass good at Pico.
I'm telling you EXACTLY what I was told at the ticket window at Pico Sunday with my Son and his Girlfriend. The system will pick up the 1st scan and charge your account at both resorts. The 2 systems do not recognize each other . I know , hard to believe but if you can't believe it call and ask and bitch and complain and hopefully they fix it.

appears to be working. even the upper lots at pico were pretty full sunday. always felt pico could make it as a stand-alone if marketed properly.
